Hello all, this is my second thread after my first one was derailed. I have an issue where every time I open the skyrim launcher and push play an error pops up saying "Skyrim has stopped working". I have reinstalled the game like 5 times, updated my drivers (I have an HD Radeon 6850) to the latest 12.3 drivers, and I have deleted my INI files before reinstalling but to no avail. If anyone also suffers from this issue or knows how to fix it please help.

Sounds like a bad registry file (did you clean them up after uninstalling and before reinstalling?) What does the event log identify?

You may want to go here http://uninstall-guides.specialuninstaller.com/uninstall-skyrim-remove-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/ and here http://howto-uninstall.windowsuninstaller.org/how-to-uninstall-skyrim-skyrim-removal-guide/ and read how to fully uninstall Skyrim for a clean reinstall to be successful and see if that fixes it.

Are you running any mods or any utilities like SKSE or Script Dragon - if YES, are they up to date? If any mods, are they up to date and properly installed?

What version of Skyrim are you running? Is it disk or Steam download?

If you do get it running your likely going to have the pixel corruption problem with an AMD card and 12.3 Catalyst drivers, hopefully you kept your 12.1 version or backed up.

I was having the same problem, and with Tidus44's advice. I found out the root of my problem was AMD's latest catalyst driver 12.3. Of course silly me, I didn't back-up an older version, but google was my friend and found links to download older drivers. I ended-up installing AMD Catalyst 11.9 cap4, 12.1 still gave my game pixel corruption, but not as bad.

11.9 there was no more pixels, and no more error message after hitting play.

Thank-you Tidus44 for guiding me in the right direction, and thank-you bossrobert for posting this thread.

Tidus44 is on the track. There was another thread "How to roll back to Skyrim version 1.5.24 " where the solution is to rename or delete a file - dinput8.dll This is used by an extra hotkeys mod and is located in the skyrim root folder. I was able to launch successfully afterward, the only thing not working, at least for now, is the extra hotkeys mod. Thanks to grandmabutch and Antaris.
