Tchos
Not only do they always watch me, but they leave their counters to follow me around if I happen to get out of a line of sight with them, and sometimes start giving me dirty looks. I'm not sure if this is a bug, or a feature. Is there some variable the game tracks that makes the merchants distrust you more? I am in fact a thief character, but I haven't really needed to steal anything lately, in these later levels, where a single enemy tends to drop items worth more than anything you'd find in a merchant's shop. And I see this behaviour even with merchants that I've never even visited before, so I couldn't possibly have stolen from them. So I've cleaned up my shady ways, you might say, but I still seem to be living under the shadow of my past. Any way to fix this? I tried several searches on the forum for this issue before I posted. I couldn't find anything useful, as even with "+merchant +follow*" it still popped up every post containing the word "merchant" even if it didn't contain the other forced search term... Alaisiagae
It is a "feature," not a bug. A bit annoying, to say the least. Especially when you are not detected because you are sneaking. Then they just walk around with this glassy-eyed look, gazing at something several feet above my head... There is a mod that stops Fighters Guild porters from following you around (it has to do with the AI). I wonder if the same tweaking could be applied to merchants? Might want to post a mod request on, say, the Official Forums, especially mentioning how it is possible to disable the "follow" feature on guild porters... Tchos
I see. Well, that's bad news, I guess. Perhaps I will make such a request for a mod. Now I wonder if there's a mod that stops the Imperial Battlemages from constantly saying "Ah! You must be the Arcane University's newest arrival." Grates on my nerves. "No, actually, I've been here for quite a while now, but have you been acquainted with my Mage's Staff of Paralysis? Funny that, you don't seem to be able to answer." ApocalypticBiscuit
It has to do with your Fame points and Infamy points.... more infamy points= dirty looks and suspicious NPCs... more fame points= people know all about you and will tell you basically what you already know like "look at the muscles on you!" "arent you the grand champion?" ...etc.
Tchos
That does not sound correct. Comments like "Look at the muscles!" are clearly related to your attributes and skills, such as strength, etc. Other comments such as relating to being Grand Champion or Hero of Kvatch are clealy based on your specific accomplishments. I could believe that infamy has something to do with the suspicious merchants, but this was happening even when my infamy was 8 and my fame was over 50. (It's 15 infamy, 92 fame at the moment). Could they be following me and staring at me because I'm famous, and not because I'm infamous? Or is infamy an all-or-nothing thing, if it's the cause?
