blender mirror modifier in fallout

hey i started experimenting my 3d modeling skills on FO-NV the modeling itself as always went fine.. but i think the game or.. more accuratly nifscope has a problem with how i did my modeling,

to get to the point.. i used mirror modifier on the upperbody female obj mesh wich i extracted from nifscope.. i somehow got the scales right and matched it (as it seemed) to the bones n stuff... but in game i see just a bunch of inverted out verticies and a pile of 3d mess...

i think it must be the fact that i used the axis tilting to copy and duplicate the mirror modifier after i was done with it... is there a way to make the game read the vert order correctly? or maby a more compatible way to make a symetrical modeling for this game??

thanks a lot :D and if ur already there.. anyone found out the excect scale of fallout-NV in blender?

ok let me explain my patch of work again, i took the femaleupperbody.nif from the data folder in fallout-NV, then i open it up in nifscope and without tauching anything i went straight to menu file>export>(OBJ.) and there was my obj file wich then i imported to blender to modify, i used a mirror modifier wraped up and exported it as OBJ. then i opened nifscope again and went to the "NiTriShape" of the same nif file, adjusted the scale and im assuming the game is inverting the verts cus of the mirror... the only problem is.. how do i make a symmetrical mesh without using it? o_O... or how do i make it work with the game.. ^^

Maybe I'm missing something, but why didn't you just import the .nif directly to Blender? Just import the .nif directly in to Blender, delete the old skeleton, modify the mesh and import a fresh skeleton with your mesh as a parent, then export it back to .nif. I think the process of importing/exporting you used is what is messing it up, you can use Blender to import/export nif files, if you have the NifScripts. Edited by prodigium

i tried to import the nif file.. but it doesnt work.. when i do that i get an error "WARNING:textures, 'texture/blabla/blablabla/blasomemore' not found... well i have no idea what to do with that ^^"..

and.. uuh can u provide a detailed guide of how excecly prepare a nif for import and export for blender?...

or.. if u could explain to me how do i delete the skeleton and.. well what skeleton do i import?.. it doesnt sound like what im trying to do though cus im just modifing existing mesh... im not trying to invent anything new ^^.. cant i make do with the current skeleton?

and just to add some information, ingame, when i try to modify the existing nif it looks awsome on the blender but i dont see... anything in the game >,<.. i think it has something to do with the material but i realy have no idea how to mess with this.

thank you so much!

Even if you're just modifying a mesh, you still need to delete the old skeleton and import a new one + make your current mesh parent before you can export it back to nif. Make sure you have installed everything correctly, and most importantly you have installed NIF Scripts. Use this as a guide: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Installation_of_Blender

And make sure your import settings and export settings are correct aswell, if either of them are somehow funky, it can result in all kinds of weirdness/not working.

EDIT: here's a quick guide how I do it every time, unless I forgot something:

If your installation is good, than all you need to do is: open up Blender -> select Import -> select NetImmerse/Gamebryo -> select the femaleupperbody.nif and import it with these settings: (http://i.imgur.com/fupix.jpg) -> select the old skeleton and erase it -> do all the modifications you want -> hit shift+a to select all -> go to Import NetImmerse/Gamebryo again -> select the skeleton.nif you want to use (you can probably use the one in the same folder as your femaleupperbody.nif, or just download one from nexus) -> in the import settings, select Import Skeleton Only + Parent Selected -> When it's done, go to Export -> NetImmerse/Gamebryo -> select Fallout 3 from the game list, and since apparently youre just doing a bare bodymesh, select ' Skin Type ' from Shader Options, select ' Skin ' from the collision options and select ' Export Geometry only ', if it hasnt been selected already. Then hit ok and you should have a fully functional bodymesh.

heh well funny thing is i though excecly the same so i installed and reinstall about 3 times many different versions.. last one was a detailed follow of that excact guide so a screw up in the installation i dont think i have, and if the default import setting are the right ones for fallout New Vegas, then i dont think i have screw up here either, wich leaves the nif.... i have taken the nif file from type-3 body replacer mod and copyed it into my moding folder, then i tried to import it to blender... just like it is, havnt imported it in any program beforehand, so... that was the error i got, what do i do from there?

btw the skeleton thing, do i do it with nifskope or with what program?, and if i do... how do i create a new skeleton?> i have never messed with skeletons before >,<

Read the part I edited in afterwards and follow those steps exactly, if it doesnt work im out of ideas. :P

Oh and while I think its obvious, make sure youre in Object mode when you're selecting all for the skeleton import. Oh and remember to select all before you export the whole thing.

hmm ok im gonna egnore the texture error and move on with the nif, in blender, is the skeleton.. the "scene root"? with all those bone icons? and pose.. and stuff?

do i delete that?

and how do i identify the skeleton file in the mesh folder? is it a nif too? i have... (.nif) and (.kf) files in that folder

After importing the femaleupperbody.nif, select the body mesh and press 'h'. The thing that was hiding underneath, with a lot of sticks is the skeleton, select it and hit 'x' to delete it. Also download this skeleton and extract it to your FNV folder: ( http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=45229 ). Use the ' skeleton.nif ' in the ' male_ ' folder when importing the skeleton. Edited by prodigium
