Different mod profiles for multiple save games

Hi all. I just had a quick question. I have a main play thorugh that i use with mods for fallout 4. I want to start a new game (Frost mod) and am wondering how i go about doing that. I see that NMM gives you options for multiple profiles. I created a new profile for the game I want to start but it has all of the same mods installed as my main game. If i uninstall the mods on that profile will it affect my main game as well? I dont want to trial and error it as i have finally got all 191 plugins i use playing nice with each other for the most part. How do i go about doing this? If this topic has been covered already i apologize for a redundant post. Thank you all in advance!

Personally, I find the way that NMM handles profiles to be just awful...plain and simple. It will activate/deactivate the mods in your mod list when you change profiles to match what you have activated for that profile. Given that NMM can’t seem to even properly handle mods with one profile with any sort of reliability, switching between multiple profiles opens the door to all sorts of problems with mods not being properly activated. I’ve seen several FROST Let’s Plays where the game eventually breaks because certain mods didn’t get deactivated when the player switched profiles...Survivors were showing up as Raiders and Gunners for starters.

MO2 (Mod Organizer 2) handles profiles in a much different manner and I find it far less problematic to use. I switched to using it months ago and love it. It handles mods installation differently than NMM: it uses a virtual file system rather than installing mods into your Data folder. The end result is managing and switching between profiles is much smoother and less prone to problems...in my experience, anyway.

I highly recommend using it for FROST or any major overhaul mod. If you have the drive space to spare you might consider setting up a totally separate game install for FROST. That’s what I do and it has been 100% problem free and doesn’t interfere with my “main” game install. I explain how I do that in this post.

Another recent convert to MO2 here.

I've been using various FOMM/NMM derivatives since I first started, back with FO3. On the plus side, those are really easy to use. But that's really the only plus side, that they happen to make mod installation and organization a bit easier than just dumping files in the Data directory and praying.

The beauty of MO2 is being able to create individualized game profiles on the fly, without having to reinstall any mods. I have a handful of test bed profiles for various mods I'm writing (just vanilla game + my mod + some UI mods for testing), and then a default one for my own personal play that has hundreds of mods on it. Each one has a segregated set of game settings and save games, so effectively it's like having multiple complete installations of FO4.

I now really can't imagine trying to develop for this game without MO2. I'll never go back.

Thanks for the replies. I have messed with mod organizer before. I tried to set up a TTW game with it and couldnt make it work for some reason. I didnt know it switched so easily for multiple profiles though so i may have to give it a second look. If i were to switch organizers would it be just as simple as redownloading the mods and copying the load order? Are you able to change the load order via MO with creation club content installed? This seems to have been broken on NMM, i can only change load order via plugins.txt and its kind of annoying.
