It is possible quite easily to remove them, but that means removing all use for that specific texture. Basically there is a texture file, and if you replace the texture with a blank one, you remove it from view. But the texture call remains until some savant decodes the xml files for us less cognitively endowed. Which is also what we need if we want to remove the texture from one specific location in the game... which is what we really want.

Please, god, someone make this. Every time I leave a town, I get a popup from that perk that makes me stronger in the wild. It's so annoying. I really love this game but some of the design choices are just boneheaded nonsense that make me actually say outloud ala AVGN "what were they thinking?"

I suspect editing the buff.xml and removing the text from between the quotation marks would remove the popup, it only seems to be present on buffs that have a popup;

e.g. buff_ui_name="buff_forester"

to

buff_ui_name=""

And it should not show up anymore. Not tested that bit yet though.

I think this problem is most easily solved by modding the texture to be transparent for the chameleon skill in particular.

That seems to be the only one that is really annoying.

 

The other activating skills (as far as I have seen at least) happen infrequently enough that it's not an issue - and being informed when your forester skill is active for example is actually useful.

 

It's not the most elegant method of doing it but... this game doesn't seem to be so easy to create more advanced mods for.

I tried removing buff_ui_name for crouching chameleon with no effect, also tried changing a couple of other things with no joy :sad:

 

You need to delete buff.tbl from this .pak to activate changes you've made.

 

I don't know how this action can affect the game, but somewhere someone says that .tbl files will be recreated each game run. However, after i delete rpg_param.tbl it was not recreated, but game still runs normally.

 

P.S. make a backup for .tbl :)
