MalevolentSpoon
So today, I downloaded and installed the Useful Crank, Lore-friendly Holotapes, Pre-War Binoculars, Weapons of Fate, and Laser Bolt FX mods. I already have around 50 other mods installed on my game, all of which have so far had no problems. I've not done any playtesting yet. Since I tried to load the game and go into the mod menu and activate those plugins, the game gets as far as "initializing" before it crashes. I have uninstalled all of the mods I installed today, and am still having this problem. It's the first problem I've had yet.
Greslin
I really don't know why people use that thing. (I'm assuming you're on PC, because I don't think there's a console version of WoF?) Use NMM, or Mod Organizer 2 (my preference, but more complex), instead of the in-game mods menu. The other thing I would suggest is downloading and booting up FO4Edit. It'll tell you if you have a fatal conflict, missing masters, etc. somewhere. MalevolentSpoon
Alright, FO4Edit is up and working. As far as I can tell, it's got nothing trying to explode my system as is. However, I have another issue. I've got Nexus Mod Manager installed, and am ready to choose file paths. Now, I already have mods I have installed manually in my Data folder, and I was hoping mainly to use NMM to activate and manually move my plugins around. Am I able to have it manage that for the mods I already have installed? And if so, where should my pathing be set up? Lastly, if this is not possible, would I need to uninstall and reinstall all my mods? (Which I think would be a problem, since I'm fairly certain I need to disable them first, but can't since, again, my game crashes on trying to access the in-game mod menu...) Greslin
You should be able to reorder your plugin load order without having to reinstall anything. If you want to have NMM actually manage the mod packages themselves, though, you'll have to reinstall them through NMM. Right now it has no way of knowing which assets belong to which mod. In FO4Edit, select all the plugins along the left side of the window except for the base game .ESMs, then right click and select "Check for Errors". That will tell you if you have broken references anywhere (game pointers that lead to nothing), which tend to be primary causes of crashes. MalevolentSpoon
Okay, well. Now there's a huge list of errors popping up. I'll try and interpret what it's telling me. Several NPCs from Tales from the Commonwealth, a bunch of their faces aren't loading because they're not in the "human" preset. Something about Unused Data from the Medical Protectron in Robot Home Defense. Laundry list of navmesh errors in Bob's Diner and Stairs, Ladders and Ramps. Scripting issues in Unique Uniques. Thematic and Practical... contains subrecords. No clue what that means. Same as above with Settlement Objects Expanded. Not sure what a lot of these mean, and I'm not sure how to fix them. Greslin
A lot of those are just warnings and are usually safely ignored. You're looking for the stuff that actually has the word "error" attached, and especially anything that says something like "reference ID not found" or similar. Those are usually caused by broken mods or missing masters, and that's the cause of many if not most mod-related CTDs.
MalevolentSpoon
Okay, so good news! My crashing problem, at least on the main menu and trying to load the mod menu, was because there was one mod that for some reason had me make my plugins.txt file read-only. MalevolentSpoon
So, in that case, things are probably a lot better off than I thought. Though, there are a hefty number of these "error: <could not be resolved>" in there. Mostly with scripting for quests or with nav errors. Are these things to worry about also? ... You've been a big help, by the way. Thanks a ton, in advance.
Greslin
"Could not be resolved" is definitely something to worry about. That error basically means, "I have a reference FormID here and I need the information that it points at, but I haven't the slightest idea what it is, so yeah, we'll just kinda leave that hanging out there and hope for the best." The first time that mod tries to use that reference, you'll likely have a CTD. I'd say that's your problem. Usually when "not resolved" errors come up, it's either because you're using a really buggy mod (happens sometimes, not often), or more likely, you're missing a required master file or DLC. It's time to sort through all those errors and find out what you're missing.
MalevolentSpoon
Well, that's unfortunate. Hopefully there's a video or something somewhere that can explain to me what all the numbers mean. On top of that, my ENB I got installed also isn't functioning right. I have the files and everything set up exactly how the instructions said, but it's just spitting out more errors, about stuff that it can't seem to open, or something. I dunno.
