Yoshiap
First of all, I am a noob at modding and using this forum. Please be gentle if I am posting in the wrong place or if this has been answered and (if) you know the link, please direct me to it. Following the Nexus wiki tutorials and several others online, I have gotten to the point where I am trying to add my (made from scratch) design imported from Blender. When I try to add my (also made from scratch) texture, the UV maps don't line up and are all over the place. I created the texture and normal map dds files in both Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Gimp, just to see either program was causing the problem. I have literally spent about 48 straight hours learning how to mod only to come to a screaming halt. I find that the tutorial in the Nexus wiki is a bit tough to follow, but after 3 front and back pages of my own notes I'm finally starting to get the hang of it. Anyway, that was beside the point. Please help. What information do I need to provide to get better help etc... PC specs in case they matter. Yoshiap
I've continued messing with NifSkope after reading and watching even more tutorials. My UV maps aren't lining up properly. Any ideas? Anyone? Please...
chargerguy1973
Yoshiap, Here's a trick I used:In NifSkope, you can have it export a UV map at whatever resolution you want. You have to right-click on the NiTriShape, mouse over Texture, and select Export Template. You have to do this for every NiTriShape individually, but you can import them into (insert image editor here; I use Paint.NET) and then merge the layers to make a single template. Once you've done that, you can import that into your texture file, set the transparency of your working layer, make your changes, set the working layer's transparency back to 100%, and then remove/deselect the template layer. Does that make sense to you? Cheers!
Yoshiap
Woot!...thanks very much. I got my texture on perfectly. But now I'm running into a problem where when I try to add my new clothes item into the game, all I see is a floating body part and not my item. Additionally, when I add the item to my inventory using the console and then equip it, that body part gets replaced without my clothes. For example, instead of a hat I get a bald head. I've looked at other head piece meshes, like the glass helmet, and non of them even have body part in them. I get this problem using the Skyrim wiki tutorial. So to remedy this, I tried deleting the head entirely while only importing the "hat" and skeleton. But for some reason, I have a neck, a spine, and an NPC head nodes. Based on other meshes I've looked at in NifSkope, all I need is the NPC head. So I then tried just importing the skeleton and parent from the chef's hat and then importing just my mesh and then exporting everything together. Which then leaves me without any dismemberment data. So when I try to create one, I add the dismemberment piece manually, and then copy and paste the other two pieces (skin and something else) and properly link them. From here everything looks great. Except for when I try to add bones. The second I add bones, my mesh disintegrates into mesh soup. Argh! And now I'm stuck. I've been trying many different things for hours on end to no avail. Would somebody please help me? Again, thanks a bunch Chargerguy1973 !! And sorry that was so long winded. Y
chargerguy1973
Yoshiap, No worries. My knowledge is still rather limited, so I honestly don't have any clue about how to fix your new issue. The last time I "built" any sort of clothing was when I simply adjusted an existing mesh for New Vegas and that hardly counts! I'm sorry I can't help further. Yoshiap
I seem to have solved the problem for my hat. Now to try other body parts. *Fingers Crossed*
