ricechex
I love skyrim,it's beautiful,it's fun,and it's so immersive, but like all games,it has it's flaws.I for one found a flaw in the armor system it uses,I preferred the system used in morrowind,in which you could mix and match almost every piece of armor like you would be able to in real life.In skyrim you have the helmet,"armor",gloves, and boots, but in morrowind you have the helmet, shirt, chest piece on top of the shirt, left shoulder piece, right shoulder piece, left bracer or glove, right bracer or glove, pants, armor plated trousers on top of those pants, and boots. If this is possible, please make it happen,I would love to have a customizable armor setup, thank you. AjaxSt
I think the way it's done in Skyrim is hard coded, unfortunately. They weren't able to sufficiently make separate pauldrons for Oblivion, either. Unfortunately, the system we have right now is the system we're stuck with. Which sucks, because I really think it's a massive step back from Oblivion, which itself was a massive step back from Morrowind.

behughes
I just posted a thread about this, specifically because I like the ability to mix and match pauldrons (shoulder piece) or just wear one for an asymmetrical look. From what I understand, the game uses a set of "slots" for body parts to which clothing, jewelry, and armor can attach. This is why some hoods and circlets can be worn together, they occupy different body part slots. There is a limited number of these, so it would probably be difficult, probably impossible, to add more types of clothing or gear the normal way. There is a mod called Winter Is Coming - Cloaks http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=13486 which adds fur capes to the game using a previously unoccupied slot (if I understand it correctly) so it is possible to add some things. Perhaps this slot could be used for pauldrons. Assuming the game has at least a few of these unused slots, it would be possible to fill them in with armor pieces. Just three slots would be enough to make right and left pauldrons, and greaves as a separate piece from the cuirass. Alternately, there could be a way to customize armor through the crafting system. Using the armor workbench, it could be possible to add or remove the left, right, or both pauldrons to a piece of armor. It would probably have to be limited to sets of the same type, for practical and aesthetic reasons (e.g. dwarven armor with dwarven pauldrons would be possible, but leather armor or glass pauldrons would not).
