WastelandAssassin
go to steam and verify file integrityif you somehow deleted Skyrim.esm , steam will download the files again for youdo try to refrain from removing game files , for your own sake . sure steam will download them again for you , if you make it , but if you don't realize you do this , it could create hell in your game without your knowledge

WastelandAssassin
maybe the easiest thing for you to do is simply uninstall and reinstall the game from scratchthat should set you up with a clean and functioning installation of Skyrim , which you can then mod

WastelandAssassin
after reinstalling the game , do you now have the files that were missing before?have you tried using the scanning function of NMM , to make sure it finds your game? you say NMM doesn't run . does it open up? can you select a game? when does it stop working? (at which stage)? does it give any error messages?
wfandrews
Where do you have NMM installed? Where do you have Steam installed? You can look for Skyrim.esm forever under D:/Skyrim but I do not believe that You can install Steam and Skyrim in different folders, although maybe I am wrong. Your Skyrim.esm should be under: whatever drive you have Steam installed on/Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim Special Edition/Data. What you could do after you reinstall the game is right click on it, go to "properties" then "local files". then "browse local files" at the top of that window it will show the path to where Skyrim Special Edition is installed on your computer. After you reinstalled the game did you launch it from the Steam launcher to create your ini files before initiating NMM; you need to do this before NMM will let you do any operations with files. All your mod tools need those ini files to function properly with that individual game, The ini files are Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini and are located in My Documents/Mygames/Skyrim Special Edition by default.
