****Spoilers**** Dogmeat: completely useless

I have never been so annoyed with a Follower/Companion than I am right now with Dogmeat, Not even Lydia and Recorder from Skyrim. While I was trying to sneak through Lexington, Dogmeat attacked enemies I was just about to sneak pass, Knocked over every loose object possible, and get in the way of me trying to kill the enemies. I was in Vats as suddenly his big stupid face, open mouth and all sways in front of my shot. So, if I didn't need the storage and haven't met any other yet. (still in my first 6 hours of the game for the first time)

Yep, that sure sounds like Dogmeat lol. Annoying little rascal. I always dismiss him has soon has possible for that and other reasons, including his whining or that creepy yawn he LOVES to do. There are mods on the nexus that aim to make his A.I better but I personally haven't gotten down to try them yet (possibly never at this point).

It won't be long tho before you encounter other companions tho. If, for example you go back to sanctuary you could now recruit your robot butler Codsworth (bad at sneaking tho, all companions are). Otherwise keep on following the story and soon you'll meet your very first human companion ^^.

Advice tho.. if you really enjoy sneaking I recommend you do it solo. Sneaking with companions is just one big headache @_@ has they suck at it.

Anyways Welcome to the commonwealth Wolfskin75 : )

Codsworth isn't a bad starting companion, although, as mentioned, he sucks at sneaking, but he's got pretty good stats for early game. (There is also a Codswordth2Human mod, that pretty much does what it says on the tin. Handy if you want to equip him with better weapons or armor.

Also, the Heather Casdin standalone follower mod is not bad for a "sneaky" character, I can't remember what level you can recruit her at, but she has an options menu where you can set her attack stance to "sneaky", where she won't attack if the player is sneaking unless you or she gets attacked.Plus she's a "vendor" with some unique chems, pretty handy for a "survival" play through.

I like getting Codsworth early-game because, at that time, my char sucks at sneaking too.

I don't think Heather Casdin has any level requirement. In my current game, I recruited her pretty much straight out of the vault.

Knocks things over, gets in the way, gores raiders. Sounds like... a dog. Dogmeat of fallout 4 is the first dog companion that I've ever liked. Dogs like Barkspawn from dragonage and dogs from previous fallouts and Skyrim were just blank dog-shaped graphics that reduced the hitpoints of enemies and barked too much. This Dogmeat is actually... acting like a real dog, more or less.
