CMoth
I've always been annoyed by video games that start you out as a near middle-aged invalid with no skills or abilities. While I understand that increasing skills and leveling up perks is all a part of the fun I find it a little silly. What were you before the game started, a toddler? You've had to have learned something useful in the first half of your life. What I do is have bat files that I enter into console commands to upgrade perks and skills for the type of character I want to start as. While a decent enough fix it's a little immersion breaking to open up the console. I'd rather have a story based menu that allowed me to select a character type using something akin to a profession title. You can choose everything else about your character, why not a set of basic skills that meet specific character builds? You know, a blacksmith would have a decent start on being a good warrior. A medicinal alchemist with some minor magic ability. A former sneak thief to start down the road to super-sneaky assassin guy. I know that the races have certain "special attributes" but that does NOT equate to having a full adult life prior to the events of this game. Oh gee, as an Orc I can get really pissed... nice. So, I was thinking of having a scripted option in the character creation menu at the start of the game where you can choose an occupation title giving you a good head start down a specific character type. Have a set of unlocked perks for each occupation or whatever that had elevated skills for those perks. Not god-like but better than a goo-fingered idiot that's been dumped into the world. Fallout sort of had the right idea but didn't quite go far enough with it. So, that's my request. I'd do it but my modding skills are presently at "goo-fingered idiot". ;)
TheLine
You could download the Child Race and play as that, it may not be a great story advancement but it's good enough right?
CMoth
You could download the Child Race and play as that, it may not be a great story advancement but it's good enough right? All that does is make my physical size and age match the inability forced on me by the game designers. Besides, while it's believable that an adult can deal with the stresses of a massive ordeal and make complex moral / immoral decisions, playing as a child just screws it all up. How can I wield a large shield and swing a sword if everything I'm trying to use is bigger than I am? Unless there's an accelerated growth rate with skills bonuses that's not much of an incentive. And BtW, exactly WHY were the Imperials going to behead a child? Thanks for the suggestion but I think I'll stick with the original request. TheLine
Actually if I'm not mistaken there is a mod that makes your character gradually age over the course of the game. Is that something that might tickle your fancy?
VorlaHusian
I think you may be interested in a mod I use: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9557 Hope this helps more than being a child for the game.
