How do i get my item in game?

So like i said, i'm trying to get a few items ingame. They are all either modified dedric items or edited stats on downloaded swords. Since i don't want any of the npcs that use that dedric item to have it, i made their item title diferent then "Deadriclongblade" or whatever. So i used to simply add them into the game world by dragging the item into a spot in the game world. but every time i look at that location in game, they aren't thier. none of the downloaded ones or not. but that was back when i knew everything about the construction set. Yes my items have been saved --several times--, and yes the files i save them under are checked in my oblivion data menu. So i prefer to put it into a crate that was already placed their by the vanilla oblivion, but when i tried that once again they didn't show up. i've been trying several times to do it the old way which was to zoom onto the ground close enough to see bugs, and then i would drag the items into the window. that used to always work for me but now it won't. Please help, any and all help is appreciated.

 

Btw if anyone is wondering why i didn't put this on one of my previous posts, it's because the topic title might be searched when someone has the same simple question.

Ok, here's the step by step. Not sure I remember the technical terms for everything so please bare with me.

 

Start the construction set. Click the open folder. Check the boxes next to the plug-ins that you will be taking data from and the box next to the plug-in that you will be saving it to and set that one as the active file, if you don't have one yet don't set any files as active and when you go to save it the CS will ask you to name your new file. When it all loads up, find the cell you want to add your items to in the worldspace box and double click it. Once that has loaded zoom in to the cell close to where you want your items to be. Find the items you want to place in the menu on the left. Click and drag the specific items into the cell from the item selection menu. The item you want to place should appear there with a box of multi-colored lines around it. Now it is just a matter of tweaking the final position with your keyboard and mouse. Once you've got everything how you want it, save the plug-in file you just modified and close the construction set. Just make sure to activate your new plugin.

 

I'm sure you probably know most of this already but I'm just a thorough kind of guy. I'd suggest making a container and adding your custom items to that and then place the container were you want it. Much easier than adding a bunch of individual items to the cell you are modifying. It's also good incase you want to tweak more items later, you can just add them to the container as well. Easy Peasy Punkin' Pie. :thumbsup:

Objects from one mod NEVER show up when added to another mod, because of the game engine mod isolation architecture.

You put it in a container . . . you get there and the container is empty.

You add clothes from another mod to an NPC . . . you get there the NPC is naked, etc.

 

You have to create a new object IN your mod.

The way to do it is to rename the original object and create a similar one in your mod.

You said you renamed it. Did you answered YES when asked if you want to create a new object?

If you answered NO, the results are exactly what you are experiencing.

 

Then follow The LeeHarvey's instructions and you should have it ingame.

yeah i've done all of that. i named it things like AAALongSword or and others along those lines. i also am saving them onto my own mod file which is checked in the data menu along with the mods i derived from. but i have an idea of trying to save to those other mods. also i understand what u said QQuix. i've also experienced it. but, I'm using the new frostmourne mod (i think rank 4 on top 100) and when i save it it's weapons/frostmourne INSTEAD of weapons/deadric/frostmourne or something. could that be part of it? but even if that was the reason it can't be just that because i simply put some enchantments on deadric armors and even those don't work. I'm going to try to add a chest of some sort to that space. but if that doesn't work, does anyone else have new idea's? once again thanks for all the help. :thanks:

 

I tried to save it on a mod i dl'd, didn't work. tried putting a chest in, dragged it into world, dragged my items in the chest with 500pnds/1000pnds encumrance so has enough room. in the object window the item amounts either say "0" or "0*", how do i change that? that's the only thing i can think of.

Hi, again, ShylaEighteen.

 

First, I don’t think containers or NPC care about encumbrance.

Second, it seems that items inside containers don’t count in the Object Windows 'Count' column.

 

Third, I downloaded the Frostmourne mod (omod version), added the four swords to my mod and placed one of each in the CS. Entered the game and they were there!

 

But . . . there are some odd things about these swords:

  • I placed then high above the floor and pressed F: I took about 10 seconds for CS process the 'fall'. Everything else, NPCs included, falls almost instantly.
  • Although they looked to be about one inch above the floor in the CS, when I entered he game, they where kind of 'embedded' in the floor. I could take them with the spacebar, but I could not grab them with the Z key.

So, a wild guess is that your sword IS there, but underground. Try toggle collision off (tcl in the console) and look underground. Maybe it is there.

Or place it 2 or 3 feet above ground in the CS and see what happens ingame

PS. You didn't mention if it was there (ingame) when you placed it inside the container.

thanks again and that sounds like something to try, but a side note until my cs loads, it wasn't their in game, and neither was the container. i even tryed putting it in a crate. i'm trying to put it in anvil castle courtyard since that's an easy place to get to and an easy place to put things in.

 

p.s. just fyi, these are not the direct 4 swords from that mod. I used them but changed the editor id which then lead to creating completely new ones. basically the appearance of the mod and mesh/texture is the same but all the stats have been changed.

I did that too: (changed the editor ID), but didn't change anything else.

 

If the container was not there, then there must be something else. Something more 'basic'

 

I suggest you double check yourr procedure. Like if the name of the esp wou are using in the CS is the same as the name of the activeted mod and things like that.

 

Also try to add a vanilla item and see if it shows up in game.

 

But I am afraid I will only know what happened tomorrow (It past 5 am here)
