Q: How to add new texture to a duplicated Skyrim item

Recommended Posts

Hi nexus, I started modding yesterday, and so far have been using textures and models that were given in the items before I duplicated them. I am modding Skyrim BTW. So when I go to the art&sound tab of say, a sword, there is only sound and a model. Where can I find the texture it refers to? And most importantly, where can I specify it?

Thanks people

Sup degauss94 gl with the modding; now about ur problem, download the fallout mod manager so u can extract the bsa files(in the bsa files u can find the textures, meshes of the weapons, armors, items that u wanna modifier), ur gonna see that almost all the paths are similar exemple: Data\textures\armors\imperial\imperial.dds, u can extract the texture and after the modifications, u dont need to repack the texture in the bsa, u only need to create the same extructure in the data folder(in ur skyrim installation)

PS http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Skyrim_BSA_Extraction

http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/How_to_create_texture_replacers <--there u can find more info, hope this can help u.

PS2 Engrish ftw o/

if it's a weapon, you'll need to make a copy of the original weapons _1stperson mesh, rename it, and assign the new texture in nifskope. then assign it to the weapon in the creation kit. obviously you need the textures too - those are all in the bsas.

And if you want a new texture to that weapon for say a brand new weapon like a chicken (don't ask... I made a arrow based on one lol) you can assign it using creation kit. Like if you had it on your desktop (BAD idea haha) and wanted to use it you'd go to the file location and assign it. Of course if you were going to do this you'd have to go where to the mesh was and if it explodes to edit it.

LOTS of options if you use tutorials, nifscope, a bsa extractor, and creation kit haha. Just gotta tinker with it
