SirDanest
I've been looking at internet pictures of the real mojave (especially the plants like the Joshua tree.) I saw a number of things I didn't expect (I live in the northeast so I've never been anywhere near Nevada.) For one, there was even a pic of snow on the Mojave. Wow. And the seemingly endless flowers after a rain? So colorful it was almost garish, but completely real. I had no idea!Is it practical to have flowers appear after a rain? The rest of the plants of the region seem to be doing just fine, so, why not flowers too? I mean, besides "not apocalyptic enough," of course. We have some very basic weather functions, it's been a while since I looked at them, but IIRC some deal with rain. If that's the case the 2nd part of the equation is the flowers. Most of what we have is, I think, individual models with alpha planes and a flower texture. I'm not really too sure how it would impact game performance to put a lot of (100s, 1000s?) wildflowers in a location. Or if possibly a new landscaping texture from the geck (which is how our dirt, asphalt etc is applied) would be better. The alpha planes are a really really simple mesh (some of them just a few rectangles), so maybe their impact would be minimal. If you intersted I can work up a few test cases and see how things go (as well as peek at the weather functions).
