Site Bot
Article link: Start Modeling for Oblivion with Blender NOTE - THIS IS A WORK-IN-PROGRESS ARTICLE NOTE #2 - This is going to take longer than the single day that I originally anticipated. I was hospitalized shortly after starting this tutorial and do not have the time to finish it right now (July 3, 2008) If you want to start editing or creating new models for Oblivion and have no experience or software, then you are in luck! This article is for you. It will guide you through a selective process of learning Blender for the purpose of creating models for Oblivion. Step #1 - Acknowledge the learning curve. It is fairly easy to jump into blender and crank out some fairly nice models but it takes quite a bit more knowledge and experience to learn and do the entire process from start (concept) to finish (released mod). It is best to understand that you need about a month or two (realistically) before you can start cranking out some nice models that you (and hopefully others) can enjoy. You might be able to do this faster but generally, it takes a while to get all the individual procedures down and memorized in such a way that you can consistently and correctly crank out some fine models. If this timeframe bothers you, then now is the time to look elsewhere for fun rather than getting frustrated that modeling is not going as fast as you thought. Step #2 - Convert your PC into a model development rig. This process will define what software you need to install and the steps necessary to get everything ready to learn Blender and modding for Oblivion. * Install Oblivion and all related patches.* Download and install The Official Construction Set.* Download and install Blender Software Bundle.* Download and install BSA Commander.* Download and install Oblivion Mod Manager.* Download and install 7-Zip Archive Utility.* Download and install DDS Converter 2. (only for WinXP)* Download and install GIMP.* Download and install TES4Files. << INSERT TEXT HERE >> Step #3 - Reading, Reading, Reading (Blender-specific) First thing to do is to go through the tutorials related to learning the Blender interface and basics of modeling. It is pointless to try and follow modeling tutorials on how to do things if you do not first understand the basics of navigating in Blender and basic concepts covered in the following tutorials. * Blender 3D: Noob to Pro << INSERT TEXT HERE >> Step #4 - Watching and Doing (Blender-specific) << INSERT TEXT HERE >> Step #5 - More Reading, Reading, Reading (Oblivion-specific) << INSERT TEXT HERE >> Step #6 - Creating Diffuse Textures << INSERT TEXT HERE >> Step #7 - Creating Normal Maps << INSERT TEXT HERE >> Step #8 - Creating a Plugin << INSERT TEXT HERE >> Step #9 - Releasing your mod << INSERT TEXT HERE >>
