MonsterMonkey
All is in the title, and the best exemple is that huge light effect called "FXPrydwenLightDim" wich is right Under the cell "Wilderness 16.16" South of Abernaty's place...I mean, why is it here for ? And Why is there a lot of plants, trees, and stuffs that seems lost way Under ground, why are all these things there ? Aren't they using engine ressource ? JonathanOstrus
Meh took me a bit to find the spot you're talking about. It's -16, 16 for anyone else looking. If the occlusion system is working properly the engine will realize the geometry is not visible and will not render it. So in that situation no there is no loss of engine resources in the way you probably suspect. It would use a little bit of RAM (not video RAM) for holding mesh data though. So it's not the best for memory optimization but performance won't be impacted. The leftover stuff is exactly that. Probably some world builder in a rush not cleaning up after themself and left stuff behind. Or accidental edits that they didn't realize they made (we've all done that). The few things that are there have such a negligible impact on anything it really isn't a big deal. The geometries are occluded since they won't get rendered. Same thing with the light. The memory footprint for the mesh details is so small in comparison to the rest of the visible area we're talking like maybe 100k of RAM if that. Perraine
It's just laziness and/or incompetence from Bugthesda. Need a few twigs sticking out of the ground? Make a "twigs" or "branches" mesh? Pfft, just bury and entire tree mesh in the ground, with just a couple of the top branches sticking out ... 'F' it, that'll do. And they do it not once or twice. but tens of thousands of times! Need a road to look slightly buckled? Edit the terrain and textures? Pfft stick 5 "road" meshes on on top of the other ... 'F' it that'll do! Have a look at the ground around the Starlight Drive-In. There are dozens of "road" meshes, sitting on top of the ground, and if you remove those meshes, the ground looks identical underneath!
