magius
personally to me its not jsut two or three main skills that make you a good thief its a slection of skillsshort blade- most of the games pro rouge weapons that blind or paralyze the opponet are short bladesdestruction- i have found its better to have destruction then marksmen, targeting is easier, damage is sightly greater ((i have an altmer with sign of apprentice 100 int = 400 magika)) and sometimes it is better to hit at a distancesneak - no brainer obvioslysecurity- again another no braineralteration- three spell types i have found to be usefull levitation ((second story burglaries)), open, and protection spellsillusion - if you can't beat 'em command them, if you can't fight them hide from them misc skillsacrobaticsrestorationlong bladelight armerheavy armer I found out a long time ago that its much better to hide from your opponet then it is to try to fight toe to toe its the entire idea of being a rouge, but eventually you are going want to enchant heavy stuff so...... also ring of khajit is good but is limited, as soon as you do anything towards anything else such as drawing a blade or talking or opening doors you become visible again, its only real good purpose would just be getting where you want to go quickly, amulet of shadow is much better or why don't you just use the amulet followed by the ring, ((though morrowinds npc's have no see invisibility spell :( )) weapons for a rougeglass jinkblade ((telvanni towns ussully have one or two lying round where you can easily steal itvaults ((no brainer, but the redoran vaultt has one , you know the one with the key :) ))last wish a very odd one that pops up in random loot at timesmehrunes razer _very very very fast, very very very deadly ((Daedric quest)) some equip for a rougeboots of blinding speed- yeah yeah duh but remember a lot of rouge abilities are centered around speed, cause if you screw up then you gotta get a way fastmenters ring -increases int and will , security and destruction anyone, ((get soon when you get uber you won't need them)) also get your enchant skill up quickly a lot of rouge equip is use activated and you use a lot of them quickly so the lower the cost the more uses your going to be getting, and thats the differnence between looting hal of fyr blind, or stealing from some pathetic bosmer in seyda neen................ PierreBeauregard
If you want to up your enchantment skill quickly, I found the best way is to recharge and enchanted weapon by "eating" soul gems (preferably the smallest and cheapest ones, like cliffracers). Also, I've found that what's even better than "paralize" on a weapon is "absorb health". I found myself a daedric tanto and put ten points of absorb health on it. I wasn't very expensive to pay for it to be made. Putting 7 to 8 points on a dwemer shortsword is also pretty good.
Sanobia
I agree just use a probe
Breton Thief Oriana
Well, I never tried this complicated strategy because I have enough probes to untrap everything in the game alredy. With High enough security, 35 probes last a while.
Acoran
I've always used a probe. Everycharacter I make I go to the person in the bottom of the theives place in Balmora, and buy her out of master lockpicks and probes, them i'm set for a while. But making spell that could actually DISARM the traps might make a good mod foundation.
Limorkil
Telekinesis works perfectly well for opening trapped items at range. It takes about the same length of time to use as a probe, you just have to remember to stand back. Probes are easy to use and you do not need high security skill to disarm any trap. It is possible to accidentally trigger a trap on yourself when using a probe, although the chance is slight and most traps do not really do significant damage anyway. It's really a question of skill selection. If you are going to have alteration and mysticism then why bother with security? If you are the non-magical type then security is a good minor skill to take. If you are using a mod that makes traps tougher and harder to disarm then telekinesis is a bit more attractive. The thing to watch out for is a trap with an increase AOE because it can still catch you even if you stand back. Any mod-maker who changed traps and their AOE should have also thought to change the casting cost of telekinesis for balance. IMO open lock and telekinesis are both way too cheap and easy to cast. Unfortunately, the best thief IS probably a mage in Morrowind.
