DDS compression/format

Can anyone tell me the correct format and compression for dds files for object textures? I use Gimp and, with the new plugin, I can open the files but don't know how to save them correctly so the game will use them. Gimp, itself, is no help here.

Dunno, I just used paint.net and it saved the dds file with the correct settings without me having to do anything special. (never liked gimp).

 

Though I did check a box for mipmaps. Can check what settings paint.net uses after work, perhaps there are similar ones for gimp.
