shmimbadad
So, I'm on skyrim version 1.5, and I have quite a few mods installed. I like the game to look pretty, and I don't mind moderate to low framrates, so long as it's still playable. Average of 20-30 is fine by me. Anyway, I installed the "unofficial skyrim patch", and a few things happened. One, my framerate dropped to less than 10, in all circumstances. Two, even on top of the obscenely low framerate, I started getting a definite lag of a few seconds about once every minute. video just freezes completely for a couple seconds. Also, saving started taking about 5 times as long (almost 20 seconds doing a full save, and a lag of about 5 seconds doing a quicksave). So, I uninstalled the unofficial patch (luckily, I got the single, bsa/esp file version, so I just deleted those new files). Now, my framerate is back to where it used to be, but I'm still getting that little lag every minute or so, and the long saves. Any idea how to fix that? bben46
If you are seeing an FPS of 20 - 30 without mods, then adding any mods will slow it even more. You need to improve the FPS FIRST then add mods with the understanding that many mods can have a negative effect on FPS. Lag can also be caused by a background process taking over for a short time - messaging programs are bad about checking for messages in the background. This can cause crashes also. Make sure you have enough computer to run the game at the video resolution you have selected. Try cutting down on all of the video features (shadows etc) as well as the resolution.A good source for how to do this is the Skyrim section of this site: http://www.tweakguides.com/ If you can, add ram - for a 32 bit system more than 4G is wasted. A 64bit system can use up to 4G for the game, and anything else can run in any extra ram above the 4G. Skyrim already has the LAA fix that allows it to use more than 2G built in. But it still can only use 4G max no matter how much ram you have. (Less on a 32 bit system) If you have a 32 bit system be sure to shut down any unneeded background processes and other programs - such as your browser - before playing the game. With a 64 bit with 4G ram or less do the same.
