No Dialoge option to buy Proudspire Manor

Well,

Im having a Problem buying the Proudspire Manor in Solitude. Im using the Latest Patch of Skyrim.

I allready have done the qeuest to investigate The Necromancers in that cave there and placed the Horn for the Jarl at an Altar of Talos. She said I could be her Thane and Im allowed to own Property, but when I talk to the Steward Falk Firebeard theres no Dialoge option that mention a purchase on the Manor.

Also I own enough money, around 27.000 Gold coins. I also got several mods, about 22 but most of them shouldn't create problems, since they're retextures or new Gear. Interesting fact could be, that I play with a mod that disabled the main Story and that I never joined any side of the civil war.

Hope theres a fix, even througt the ingame Console.

Regards,

Dexter

Hmm. Might be the doing of that story mod. I seem to remember that I couldn't buy Proudspire manor until after winning the civil war for the empire, killing ulfric stormcloak and all that jazz. Check to see if you're getting a bug where it's not showing the Elisif's tribute quest as done. If you've talked to her about it, but that quest is still in your quest list, you can use console command "setstage solitudefreeform07 200" to force the quest to complete, which should give you access to the dialog option with whathisname. If that's not the issue, I don't know. You could always just use the "unlock" console command to get into the house, although you probably wouldn't be able to buy the decorations.

You where right it didnt finnished the quest for the Horn... well lets say it doesnt appear in the greyed out list. Also not on the white unfinnished one. Only Quest thats finnished down there is "The man who cried Wolf". It totally dissapeared from my quest list to be said. But thanks anyways, though it didnt fix it. I thought you could fix Bethsoft games with the console, like you sometimes needed to have since there where some bugs or problems you encounter in any of "The Elder scrolls" games since Morrowind. Not sure if Daggerfall or Arena got bugs too. Going to be a real problem if I need to finnish the Civil war for one side. I use that mod becouse I played the Story once, and I wanted to play a Ranger/ Hunter alligned Charakter living off the Wilds. Got quiet a catch in the Thieves guild too:P

Hmm. Yeah, I dunno. Skyrim still seems to be quite buggy. I had to use the console to force finish quest stages 3 separate times in the College of winterhold quests. And now my save file seems to be corrupted. I don't know if the two are connected, but they happened around the same time.

Well, you allways needed to use the console sometimes in The Elder Scrolls Series. I needed to use the console about 6 times to fix some Main-Quests since they where stuck. But you're right, Skyrim is really bad filled with bugs sometimes...

  • 8 years later...

Greetings people of the past!

I know you've probably moved on from your issue by now but today - over 8 years later - I ran into the same problem and I'd like to share my solution in case anyone else finds it helpful in the future.

After completing the required quest for the purchase dialogue option to show up, said quest would just disappear from my questlog entirely and the stewards refused to sell me any property. This happened for every house in the game for me. (The purchasable land introduced with Hearthfire wasn't affected for some reason.) Most people in other forums said it had to have something to do with a conflicting mod, however loading my save file without any mods didn't help and I started my character with all my mods already enabled so loading an earlier save was not an option either. I was close to giving up and just give myself the key, get a mod that edits my property so that I don't have to upgrade it and accept that I'll never actually own it.

Thankfully I stumbled upon something today! By entering two commands - one to start a certain quest and one to finish it - I could suddenly buy every house that I should be able to buy. (I had already met the requirements for every house so I'm not sure if you'd still have to do the quests or not.)

Here's how I solved this mess

Open up your console and enter the following lines:

startquest HousePurchase

completequest HousePurchase

I don't know for sure how the game decides on whether you should get the purchase dialogue option or not but I have to assume that this is some kind of flag that allows you to do so if it's set.

Anyway I hope this helps some other poor souls enjoy this amazing game a tiny bit more in the future, have a good one, fellow gamers. :]

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

TL;DR

ENTER THE FOLLOWING TWO COMMANDS IN YOUR CONSOLE TO GET THE PURCHASE OPTION TO SHOW UP:

startquest HousePurchase

completequest HousePurchase
