burger1113
Hey all Uh, there is thing thing that's always been bothering me in oblivion. During melee combat, you see, when you try to hit someone and NPC/creature hits you before you do, you tend to get knocked back with a second or two of paralyzing effect. What I'm wondering is, why doesn't it happen the other way around? :wallbash: I thought, maybe it's because of my character's skill, but after a barrage of modpc~ console codes, nothing seemed to change. Hm.. am I doing something wrong? Is there a mod that would fix this? Ooh, and this is a lil mod idea, perhaps... You know how in RPG games, some attacks/effects are strong enough to throw people around, but it doesn't do so unless the character's stone dead? I understand a living being would fight to stay grounded and what not... but I think sometimes (or often.. or VERYVERYVERY OFTEN) it's just ridiculous. Okay, it wouldn't be easy work, but don't we all think oblivion is the closest thing among RPG games to achive that level of realism for the first time? lol In my opinion, it's a vital "step" for the RPG genre. So... what do you think?
Tamujiin
I think i have no idea what you just said. just kidding after reading it again i understand that a mod that would knock something back but doesnt kill it might even exist although i wont take the time to find it for you, i am sure someone will post a link here within the day. I do belive the knockdown is because your armor/endurance is too low. i could be wrong. i never get knocked down. I am too big.
Vagrant0
I do belive the knockdown is because your armor/endurance is too low. i could be wrong. i never get knocked down. I am too big.Partially right, it deals with your stats, agility mostly, and how much damage the opponent is doing to you. If you have low agility, or they're hitting you hard enough, you will be staggered. It doesn't happen so much against opponents because your damage usually isn't enough per hit, and they seem to have been given a bit higher tolerance so that they can actually fight back. It's a sort of equalizer, something there so that things you're fighting are actually hard. The player tends to have more health, and better access to healing, so it happens more frequently. It's related to a game setting, but can't recall which one right away. When you get more skill with a weapon, you can effectivly offset this with some of the power attacks. Sarya
I only get that staggering too often when my character has low dexterity (sorry, AGILITY) (no mods related to that). So, I don't think you need to worry. Just increase it a bit. And blocking reduces the chance from my experience.
Varus Torvyn
To answer your question about achieving the physics you have with dead NPCs on live ones also: That is eminently possible on the PC (with mods). I installed TalkieToaster's "Legendary Mastery" which boosts magicka on my Breton Battlemage. Since he is also Arch-Mage, he crafted a combo Shock-Frost-Fire spell with enough force behind it to where it knocks a living NPC back about 10-15 feet. The graphics is Shock for best on-screen look. Power-attacks with sword are boosted also - my char can knock some NPCs for a real loop. Of course, this isn't an immediate uber thing. You still have to level-up. tungol
I stagger opponents all the time, and I don't have any mods for it. --unless you're talking about really sending them flying. I'd like a mod that has the computer ignore any commands I make while I'm staggered, rather than wait til I'm not staggered, then swing at them while they're blocking in spite of the fact that I'm now pressing the block button, and so stagger me again. Sarya
No, staggering is when you're off balance for a moment and step back a little. From my experience, 30 agility and 50 agility makes huge difference from that point, with sometimes for 50 and almost each unblocked hit for 30. And certain NPCs are staggered incredibly easy. Such, if you attack swift enough, you can keep a zombie from attacking you at all. Bandits also sometimes are prone to that trick.
