How do I enable mods in Fallout 4?

Yes, a quick Google search will yield the lines you need in your Fallout4custom.ini (found in your "My Documents\My Games\Fallout 4" Folder in your user name listing in the users directory (if all else fails head to your My Documents link if logged in as you and go from there).

The Lines go under [Archives], lines:

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1

sResourceDataDirsFinal=

End lines

To get that file though, you'll need to run the Fallout 4 Launcher to create the base files for you, then just hunt it down. Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) and LOOT should be of help to you, but you may be better off with NMM and a good text editor like Notepad++ and exporting your plugins list as a text file for editing to move your load order around. Once you have the load order set, just import the file back into NMM (the plugins tab will have the import and export options there on the left side, just hover the mouse over each to see what does what). You will want a separate directory to store your mods, just make sure NMM knows where that is to be (you can set that up before first running Fallout 4, it will make mod management easier for you as you get more mods.

If this all seems old hat to you, I'm just covering possibilities (Vortex is the new manager, but it's not quite ready yet, but they are working on it, keep an eye on the progress).

Happy gaming and don't forget the unofficial patch for some bug fixes. And before I forget there are instructions on how to re-enable achievements even with mods running.

There is no fallout4custom.ini file in the relevant folder.

Here is a screenshot.

Okay, then. Next step is to make it. It does help if you turn off the hide extensions for known file types by the way. Once you can see your file extensions, make a text file named Fallout4Cusotom.txt , add the [Achives] line to line one, the two settings lines to 2 and 3 and save the file. With that done, press F2 while that file is highlighted and change .txt to .ini . Presto, you now have the ini file you need. Here's mine for reference:

[Display]
iLocation X=0
iLocation Y=0
[Archives]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

That's all you should need.
