Charlinho
Something weird....every time I get naked...i.e...just underwear or no underwear, the game freezes. I know...it's an invitation to lot of good jokes but IT IS A REAL PAIN IN THE ASS Two aspects about the freeze.: 1. - no problem changing armor, that works fine 2. - In my birth suit or underwear the freeze doesn't happen immediately. It happens after about 5 seconds. That I find really weird because all crashes I know occur the moment that something is triggered, not with 5 - 10 seconds delay. But if I try to do a "tfc" it's no-go as soon as I hit the console. I've disabled all player-body related mods so I don't think it's a texture issue, so what can it be? It's nothing in the player inventory, tried it with dropping everything. I was wondering if there's a tool that logs activity to the point where the freeze happens (or console command?) so that I can find the reason. A really old savegame with all current mods active causedno problems..but I'm not going back there..no way. If someone can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful. I use FOMM and FO3edit, merged patches and masterupdate and everything was pretty smooth - most of the time.
prensa
Charlinho - Hello! "Something weird....every time I get naked...i.e...just underwear or no underwear, the game freezes. I know...it's an invitation to lot of good jokes but IT IS A REAL PAIN IN THE ASS." I had to try real hard to resist making a joke. :) The Fallout 3 multi core freeze bug comes to mind, Fallout 3 has trouble with multi core computers. Are you using a multi core computer? If so, you need to edit your Fallout 3 .ini file, the one you want to change is: For XP: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 For Vista & Win7: Documents\My Games\Fallout3 The file you want will be called: FALLOUT.ini Open the .ini with Notepad & change this line: bUseThreadedAI=0 to: bUseThreadedAI=1 & insert this line under it: iNumHWThreads=2 Save & close your ini. That sorts out the freezing completely. Hope this helps! Prensa Edited April 15, 2012 by prensa
Charlinho
sigh...would have been nice but definitely a good point to remember. I tried it but I think the problem here is deep in the works AND probably in the savegame, which means that nothing can be done. But.thanks for the try - much appreciated
prensa
Charlinho - Hello! "I've disabled all player-body related mods so I don't think it's a texture issue, so what can it be? It's nothing in the player inventory, tried it with dropping everything." Now when you say you disabled them, do you mean you just unticked their plugins? Because Body related mods will have meshes/.nif's in: Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\Characters\_male The files will probably be: upperbody.nif If you had a male body mod or femaleupperbody.nif if you had a female one. If you have any mod added body textures/.dds they will be inside: Fallout 3\Data\Textures\characters\female & Fallout 3\Data\Textures\characters\male If you have any of those files in meshes or anything inside those two texture folders, remove them & see if you still have the CTD when you remove armor. If you don't get a CTD with those removed, one or more may have been corrupted. Try reinstalling them or try a different body mod. If still no joy there, untick all of your mods. Does the CTD still occur? If no CTD, then one of the mods is the culprit. Turn back on your other mods one at a time checking in between each to see if the CTD returns. That way you can trace the culprit. If you CTD with all your mods off & you checked those meshes & textures I mentioned above then it points to your savegame. Try making a clean save, you'll lose mod added content but at least you can salvage most of what you've done up to this point. Go to your Megaton/Tenpenny Home & wait 4 game days, save & exit. Turn off all mods except Fallout & the DLC's. Reload, save & exit. Turn back on all mods & see if the CTD problem has gone. Hope this helps! Charlinho
Thanks again...I'll give it a try. It's not actually a CTD but a freeze that happens after about 3-8 seconds (If I stand still, otherwise as soon as an action is initiated) . It's as if something that's being loaded is causing it. I can see that my armour has been removed and textures (Pip-Boy arm) looks ok but then suddenly everything stops...gnr still runs in the background. Charlinho
Quickest solution, to which I'm inclined, deactivate all mods and load the latest savegame. What stops me from doing that at this pointis that it's a big hassle getting all the textures right again, especially with npcs faces. I can't remember in which order I installed themods and archive invalidation has no memory of that. But once I saw a tool in the mods section that actually remembered your texture settings andrestored them...at the time I only took note of that which was short-sighted coz sooner or later it becomes an issue anyway.
