I have a 6870 myself with a 955 BE @ 3.4, so let me give you som advice.

Not to familiar with your processor but my guess is you will need to put shadows on medium maybe high @ the highest.

iMultiSample=0 --- Major and I do mean major fps gain "we are talking about @ least 10fps verses games 4-8 setting"

If you are worried about jaggies at 0. Then my advice is turn on the FXAA in your skyrim ini folder. I also use the imaginator mod with blur on the highes. so jaggies aren't really a problem for me.

iMaxAnisotropy=16 --- any medium caliber ati card should be able to handle this with no fps loss if not then 8 is fine.

most important thing you wan to do is go to this site here and make you a custom ini file http://donotargue.com/cfg-makers/skyrim/ "major game improvents can be made here"

Not sure about your card but I can handle all view distances at dna extreme. Which really makes the game look even better on ugrids5

unlike default ini you will also be able to dramatically raise decal count per pixel which also make the game prettier. It may take you awhile to find the limts of your card but trust me this is totally worth it.

I use all of the High HD mods out their except for this mod here http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=5400 which I use the 1024 version and its just as good as the 2048

also if you use vurts use the low version everything else when it comes to animals, water, armor, weapons. You can use the high quality version without losing fps.

I use a fps caper at 30 and I get smooth gameplay but if I did not use the capper depending on the area outside I get 40-60 occasionally it will dip below 30 for a few second then straighten out. Inside I always get 60

Hope this helps

Hmm. I don't run any high resolution mods, but I do run the game with a few mods and on highest settings with only three crashes since I've got the game last year.

My specs:

HP model h8 - 1000z (2011)

AMD Phenom II X4 840T (2.90 GHz)

6 GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GT 530 GPU 2 GB

A new GPU would help, but you might want some more memory as well. The newer updates make Skyrim 4GB aware, but you won't get to use them all since Windows uses like 1.5 or more.

I've heard some people saying they have troubled with some Radeon GPUs. I suggest a NVIDIA one since their recent updates are made with Skyrim specifically in mind.

I would definitely wait till you can get a powerhouse CPU. Mid Range (150$) GPU would be enough, as Skyrim is CPU heavy. Definitely plan on dropping the most amount of money in your budget for the CPU.

Allright. Thanks for replies. I decided to wait for ivy bridge since my cpu is really old. Then I will make major upgrade. Planning to change pretty much everything except case, psu and dvd-drive.

I was thinking of getting the following parts:

intel 3550k,

8 gig of ram

radeon hd6870 or hd6950 or hd7850 (may be little overkill). Propably will wait for the release of nVidias mainstream 6xx cards and buy the card that has most perf./value.

SSD samsung 830 or crucial m4 128gb

My resolution will be 1920x1200

Got to stop drooling. Just need to be calm and wait :D

8gb of ddr3 1333 ram, gskill is cheap atm at £40 for 8gig.

Intel i5 2500k, any mobo really. Spend over £75 and no higher than 150 (for budget)

GTX 560ti

All very affordable and a good base build for a cheapish gaming rig.

can get all that for around £400.

So once you get HDD, case, psu etc etc, you are probably looking at about £750 at the cheapest (dont cheap out on psu, spend at least £70, get a roomy case with good rear and front intake)

Anything more expensive than this is just icing on the cake tbh, that rig should be able to run anything for the next year with ease.
