Toddemix
Toriyama's character designs are an acquired taste, I suppose. However, Dragon Quest VIII for the PS2 was a charming iteration of what can make a turn based console RPG so appealing. A whimsical sense of humor, atmospheric dungeon design, a subtle balancing of risk versus reward, and rich character customisation, all to be experienced against the backdrop of Level 5's luminous, lovely cel-shaded world. It was a fine game.
