Alright, so i'm no Mod Guru or anything, i don't know much about mods.

So recently i decided to try Skyrim and as any other person i wanted to start out with a decent looking character.

So i went on Nexus and since there is absolutely no 'begginer' thingy on the site for those who have no idea what to download, well, i just did that, downloaded stuff.

So there were sevelar issues i had instantly:

1) Apachii Sky Hair does not work AT ALL. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10168

I'm not even joking. I get no response from it at all. I download it with the NMM, install it and start the game, but i see absolutely no new hair no matter what i do!

Am i missing something?

2) Univision Face Mod refuses to work as well. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=14569

The same as with the hair. I even downloaded the save file of the already created character, but all i see is absolutely no face, just eyes and mouth on the character.

And yes, i do have Enchanced Character Edit, but that doesn't do anything that could fix the issue.

3) Would really love some tips.

I would really like if someone could just break it down to me what are the best skins, interfaces, HD texture packs to use since there are so much and i have no idea which one to pick.

Main thing to ensure is that you've got the esm file for Apachii Sky Hair checked in your mod list in NMM and its loading directly after Skyrim.esm and Update.esm.

Far as Univision goes I didn't download that as it doesn't fit my personal lore tastes so I'm not sure what the issue is there. But as long as you've installed it via NMM it should be installing the mod correctly.

First you need to ensure that you've set up ArchiveInvalidation via NMM, click on the wrench and screwdriver and choose Apply (or Reset) Archive Invalidation.

If that doesn't work go into your Skyrim.ini located in your Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder, and under the [General] section, ensure you have bLoadLooseFiles=1 there, though thats an old fix and should not be needed using Archive Invalidation with NMM.

As for #3

Best skins are a toss up.

For female characters its a choice between CBBE and UNP, CBBE currently has the most modder support but its been around longer, UNP is reported to be far easier to work with. There are other female body mods and they're all pretty good but these would be the two most commonly used.

For male characters its hands down Better Males by Chris57 and FavoredSoul.

Interface is pretty much SkyUI and Categorized Favorites Menu working together. There are a few other interface mods but SkyUI and CFM are a good functional combo that expand on the limited capabilities of the stock UI.

HD Texture Packs are a no brainer really, Skyrim HD 2K is all you need to search for. Best set available, definitely better than the Bethesda "high res" DLCs.

The fact that you are a member since 09 would sugest that you are not new to the site and have an idea, but your comment wound suggest that you do not. I apologize if any of this is redundant, but maybe it'll help someone.

UNP is more realistic and petite, as is my preference. CBBE is more "pinup" and sometimes exaggerated IMHO.

Check out Coverwomen by Mr. Lenski for the faces (of women). The makeup is a little much for me, and I wanted to keep the game close to vanilla, just not have repulsive looking women everywhere, so I use "look 4," which is supposedly no makeup.

Apachii sky hair works for me.

I started modding my game with oblivion, then morrowind. I completely F***ed up my entire game several times. Like everytime. And then I learned the secret.

1. Whenever I see a mod that I think I will like, the first thing I do is check the comments section. If there are a bunch of people complaining about errors or crying for help that something is screwed up, I wont DL the mod. I will track the file until it is "fixed." If it's one of those mods that requires you do a bunch of extra crap before it will work, I tend to stay away.

2. There are two kinds of mods when it comes to things you can see. Some mods will change the way something looks when you install the mod. They go back to normal if you uninstall the mod. Some mods will change the way something looks permanently; if you want the old stuff back you have to reinstall. These are called replacers. I dont DL these

3. When I search for mods, I go to the categories section and pick a category. Then I click the drop down boxes at the top and set it to:

Sort by: [Downloads] in [Descending] order

This way I see the most downloaded ones first. These are the most trustworthy mods in my experience (after checking the comments, of course). I dont sort by endorsements for several reasons.

4. One at a time. I try out each mod individually after I install it. This way, if there is a problem I know which mod it is. If you DL a bunch, load them all up, start the game and theres a problem, you're gonna be spending some hours fixing instead of playing. Not fun, I assure you.

5. Clean saves. Sometimes a modder will recommend you do a "clean save," but most wont explain what that is because most ppl know what it is. Without a mod installed, you load up your game, save it without the mod, then install the mod and load up the game.

Example: Uninstall the mods you mentioned in your post. Load the game. Save your game (clean save). Install and try the mods one at a time.

Good luck

For ApachiiSkyHair to change the hairs on characters, you have to have an NPC changer mod installed (it changes the NPCs), like NPC Overhaul http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23755

You will have the hair styles available to change your own character by typing "racemenu" at the console ( ~ key ) after installing Apachii Hair.
