Ewendoun
Hi there! As a French translator ( member of "The Brotherhood of translators" or in french "La Confrérie des traducteurs"https://www.confrerie-des-traducteurs.fr/forum/index.php, and also a poor and little mod creator (for my won use, nothing essential for this community  ), I have the project to create a New Radio Station for The Waves of the Mojave.. Excuse, first of all, my poor english, didn't practised on production since... a undecent time  ! The fact is I red some partials tutorials or watched them on video, but the point is that there is very feeeeeww information, and synthetic information, from my little knowledge and point of view, to help beginners like me to create a Radio. In some words, i just know merely how to create a Radio (talking activator, playlists, with some problems i must say, making the radio appearing on Pipboy in game, creating a little loop, with few success, in order to simulate a random playslist), but there would be a greaaaat gain of time for everybody, maybe I didn't yet found the Holy Grail  , if there were some documents/ web pages to detail the basics and advanced steps to create a dynamic, with speaker , jingles , everything, new radio ? One main problem remains that I didn't found yet how to link scripts, and good ones, to follow in game events evolution, and lack of technical knowledge in order to achieve the project. So, I requiere thanksfully every bit of help, and transmission of knowledges, i already contacted some Radio mods creators, but maybe a good and clear, no matter the difficulty (work is my principle  ), tutorial that i never saw yet? Thanks for your reading and your advices, very much. Ewendoun, motivated to work, but need some lessons about some things.
dubiousintent
Have you seen the "Music & Sounds" section of the wiki "Getting started creating mods using GECK" article? It has several tutorials and tips on creating radio stations. If you find any better ones, do let us know for the next person looking for that information. Scripting and Dialog are in two other different sections, each with their own resources. -Dubious-
Ewendoun
Hi, THANK YOU!!! Very much, no i have never seen a suuuch complete document/ information source, I hope after having learning the most of it, I could do many things as i wish them to be for the Radio project. Thank you once again, really, I am positive this kind of precious wiki does not exist yet in French, and my researches weren't successfull until you provided this link. :D :D ! Go go, work on it, and I will of course let Nexus community, if one day i find a better wiki or something, because, there, it seems to be the Holy Grail. Thanks once again  ! Sincerely,Ps: If I have some troubles during the work on the radio creation, could i create a topic in the right place? Hope there won't be many. Have a nice day,EwendounEDIT: I will keep on seeking, if someone get some informations about precise points, like the scripts used to make an evolution on radio's informations, some and other things like that, because unfortunately, the sections of this great wiki lead to known and already red or seen documents, which are unfortunately again, not really exaustive.. But thanks once again, if someone has more informations or a tutorial focused on radio creation steps, and advanced things related to this subject, would be amazing!Have a nice day fellows   !In peculiar, If someone already modded a radio, even in complex or more sophisticated functions, like create/retrieve scripts and link this with a coherent loop of voiced topics, please have a look at this post! .EDIT 2: By the way, i will tru to translate with autorisations, this kind of wiki page, because it seems to be a "treasure" of experience and tips in order to create proper and clean mods ! Thanks for the sharing and discovery :) ! Edited March 24, 2018 by Ewendoun
EPDGaffney
I've made two radio mods. I think the best way to do this is to look at Dubious's curated information there and look at other stations that already exist to see how they've done it. In my experience, unfortunately, making another station as well done as Radio New Vegas just breaks the engine. What I mean is that songs will just no longer be called to play and the station will play no sound. In my experience. The method the guides tend to use is that they make a few 'playlists', each with about five songs, and then only one of these songs from each playlist is called to play until one song from each playlist has been heard, and then that cycle repeats. It's not true shuffle, but it gives that illusion. If you want to give me an example of a specific thing you want to do when it comes up, do so and I'll explain how it's intended to be done, though I can't guarantee anything is going to work as it should. Ewendoun
Hi, i just dig up this topic I made a long time ago, because I am a bit back to work on the radio creation for fun. A new question I didn't find answer for real is how to add events with the Geck and use them as kind of scripts in order to launch a repeted kind of breaking news flash, a bit like Mister New Vegas ? The idea is to take in count the actions and choices of the player. If new events cannot be added, someone knows how to use the old ones ? Thank you very muchEwendoun
WarMachineDD7
The Radio New Vegas quest (RadioNewVegas) keeps track of major events by having the quest for them modify a variable on the RadioNewVegas quest. So for example, the RadioNewVegas quest has a variable called bKimballMOD, if the quest You'll Know It When It Happens (VMQ03) results with the Vertibird bomb exploding and killing Kimbal, then the VMQ03 quest will change RadioNewVegas' bKimballMOD variable to 1. Alternatively, if the player uses Jeremy Watson to kill Kimbal by placing C4 in his helmet, the VMQ03 quest will change RadioNewVegas' bKimballMOD variable to 5, and so on and so forth for all 5 recognized possibilities for VMQ03. RadioNewVegas will use a different news report depending on the result of bKimballMOD. The same goes for the nStory variable in the RadioNewVegas quest. Each specific point in the story quests move that variable along for RadioNewVegas to react to. Those are the only two variables used for news flash tracking according to the RadioNewVegasSCRIPT. You can use those same variables for your own radio station if you don't wanna add new ones (in other words, when RadioNewVegas.bKimballMOD changes to 5, your radio mod can read that and play a different news flash, without having to insert your own variable). And you can also make different scripted events to catch something else happening in the world if you wanna make another news flash, you don't have to do it exactly like they did. The point is that something somewhere will change the variable that your radio mod will use to track the outcome of an event, and your radio will react with a news flash once it changes. dubiousintent
Thanks for that. Added "Breaking News Flash" to "TIP Format to call a song" under the "Music & Sounds" section of the wiki "Getting started creating mods using GECK" article. -Dubious-
Ewendoun
HI, thank you very much, once again it will be helpful in order to progress in the radio creation :) !
WarMachineDD7
One of the scripts that ends up changing RadioNewVegas's bKimballMOD variable is VHDKimballVertibirdScript. In other words, the vertibird's script will tell you if a bomb went off and killed Kimball. I assume that the other scripts that change it have to do with whoever takes the shot at Kimball or blows him up. Anyway, I should add that the other way they check on world events is with Global Variables. The result of a quest will have a line there at the end changing a global variable according to the result of a quest, which RadioNewVegas will use to see if the news story will trigger (they all start with "VStoryEvent", like VStoryEventMonorailDestroyed for example).
