Clone one NPC face from a replacer to use in another?

Recommended Posts

I struggled with finding the right topic title...

I use several NPC replacer overhauls in my game. Currently I have Diversity, Ashara's Follower Faces, Metalsabers Beautiful Ladies and the Biijin series. Many of these alter the same NPC's so I have to let one win out over the others. But there are always a few faces from the ones that aren't winning that I'd prefer. For example, I prefer Diversity's Erik the Slayer but Ashara's is loaded after because I prefer most of the others it replaces.

I have tried the NPC Visual Replacer tool which works when I use a standalone NPC to replace a vanilla but not when I try to copy vanilla to vanilla. It gives me brown face.

Diversity touches the most records, by far so what I would like to do (if it's possible) is put the faces I choose from the other mods into the Diversity mod. This would allow me to have the faces I prefer loaded into one mod, which would also help out because I run a very heavily modded game and am near my plugin max. So what I want to do is take the facegen data, etc from one replacer mod and use it in another replacer mod.

I am not very experienced with CK, Nifscope or TES5Edit but have checked out a few tutorials. I've found ones that show you how to export your characters face to upload to a NPC and several that show you how to create a new NPC. But none that tell me how to do what I am wanting to do. Some say it's as simple as copying the texture and mesh files and transferring them over, other say that won't work.

Is this possible somehow? And if so, can someone point me to a tutorial explained without super techy terms so that I can figure out how to do this? Or give me step-by-step instructions on how to achieve this? :) I've spent the past two days trying to figure this out.

Thanks!

You can do it fairly simply in the Creation Kit as long as both NPCs are loaded. The downside is that whatever mod the face is coming from then becomes a master file for your ESP.

If no one beats me to it, I'll post the step-by-step instructions once I get home tonight and have the CK in front of me.

Hi Omegacron!

Thanks for your reply! My deepest hope is to figure out how to do this so I can reduce the number of active mods in my load order... Your method would require I keep both esp files active, correct? Or would it be like NPC visual replacer and I could have it installed but the esp doesn't have to be active? (I may not be explaining that right but with that tool, in MO the master file can be checked on the left side but not on the right and it will work.)

No, you have the right of it. If you copy a face from a mod called "NPCs_Reborn" and 'paste' it onto a vanilla NPC, then the mod's file (NPCReborn.esp, for example) would be considered a master file and would need to be active.

If you're just trying to eliminate the number of ESP files you have active, you may want to look into Wrye Bash - it allows you to merge the edits from .ESP files into a single one, thereby allowing you to turn off the original .ESP files.
