Removing or replacing Molerats and every possible rat in the game.

Hello,

I recently downloaded GECK for Fallout New Vegas and getting into creating mods for the first time. What inspired me was just the sole purpose of removing all molerats and any other possible rats I don't know about from the game.

I'm gonna be honest and it's kind of pathetic: I have a phobia for mice/rats in real life and whenever I see something that looks or reminds me of one in game, it freaks me the hell out to no end. Some people may find that idiotic, it's okay. Everyone is different in their own way.

I'm aware that, for Fallout 3, a modder named naugrim04 made a mod called "Mutants Be Gone" that replaces Molerats with dogs. He made one for Fallout New Vegas, but it only replaces Geckos. I wanted to make my own, but I'm too afraid to click on the creature's names because they may appear in the Render Window and if that happens, I won't even want to touch my computer :c

I really really want to play and enjoy Fallout New Vegas to it's fullest, but I just can't as long as Molerats exist in the game. I'm still learning the GECK and trying to find good tutorials on youtube (though I can't find one that teaches you how to remove npcs from the game.)

A huge part of me does hope someone else can create a mod like this, though not because I'm lazy, i just can't deal with these vermins. That or if someone can point me to a good tutorial video on how to remove creatures from the game, that would be a huge help!

Thank you!

Thank you Devin :D

If actual testing meaning venturing around to see if I encounter any molerats, then I'm a little hesitant. Thankfully, I'm going to my friend's place tomorrow, so he and I can test it together lol

The GECK is pretty interesting and a lot of work really went into it. I'm just glad I attempted it and got something started, even if it's something very small.

No problem, so I'd suggest a replacer since removing mole/rats completely may have unintended consequences. I'm thinking of running it through fnvEdit as a more streamlined approach. Thoughts on a replacer you might like better?

Dogs or Ghouls would be good. Dogs would make more sense since there's a quest involving healing a molerat's leg. I need to watch Gopher's video about fnvEdit for better understanding.

  • 2 weeks later...

Definitely push ahead!

Sorry I'm so late in getting back to you, I'm catching up after a little flu/cold. I just went ahead and edited the baseID (all the refIDs will reflect the new changes) of one entry in geck and there were no red flags or issues. However I thought since it had been over a week I should probably check and make sure you were still interested in having hte request completed, before I edit all 50 entries.
