scottym23
When I play Skyrim, eventually this unfortunate event will happen where the screen starts deforming and flashing bright neon colors. Usually the game will start to lag uncontrollably a couple seconds before this starts. Sometimes I can get a good 30 minutes to an hour of solid game play in before this starts to happen, and other times i'm not so fortunate and it starts to happen 5 minutes into playing. I play on high graphics settings, and that's the default setting that it recommends I play on. I have verified my game cache multiple times via steam and it assures me every time that I have all the proper files. All of the mods I download are respectable and have a lot of downloads, so I can't imagine they could be the problem. I also checked to see if there were any mods conflicting and it seems like there aren't any. I'm all out of ideas as to what the problem is and what the solution could be, and it's really ruining my game experience and feeling of immersion. Can someone help please? Tidus44
First thought - sounds like a card failure - check your video card temperature, how hot is it getting. Sounds like what happened to me just before my video card went.
scottym23
First thought - sounds like a card failure - check your video card temperature, how hot is it getting. Sounds like what happened to me just before my video card went. I downloaded a program and it's saying that my gpu temperature is at 90C when Skyrim is running. Is that normal? If not, what are some things I could do to lower it? Edited April 20, 2012 by scottym23

You should be able to find the specifications for your specific card on the internet and find out its max temperature range. Another problem is that if the card is constantly getting hot (as in over heating) and then cools (when not playing for example) and then gets hot again, this damages the card eventually. So if the card is over heating, how long has the card been overheating? What to do? Short range, is the card cooled by fan? If yes make sure it is running and clear of dust, etc that could slow air down. See if this helps. But do look up the specs on your card and see what it should be running at. You may need another fan or one moving more air.

scottym23
I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 graphics card and the temperature i'm getting while running Skyrim doesn't seem to be too bad considering the sources I've read. Here's one of them: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1258/11/ People are saying that the 480 is the hottest card NVIDIA has ever released, and can run efficiently and constantly at 90C. Either they're wrong or that isn't my problem and i'm back to square one on what's wrong with my game :/ Edited April 20, 2012 by scottym23
JoPineapples68
If the GPU Temp for it is hitting 90C it's way too hot, if your using NMM and mods i would disable all of them and just play vanilla and see what happens. If it's ok then it's the mods pushing the card, if your using heavy texture packs like Skyrim HD2K on the full version i would change to the Lite etc. etc. It's either your card or the mods and only 1 way to find out, TBH should take an hour if that to figure out if you uninstalll all the mods.
