Skyviper086
So I'm traveling with ED-E and I see all the hostiles around me ... but they are out of range. Do you think it would be possible to make a mortar tube? I'm sure about the animation side of things but having a mortar tube should be awesome. *phoomp* :::long whistling::: KABOOM!! 40xp awarded. Little smiley face appears. Rain of Death ... Kill enemies with long range Mortar round!

I don't think the engine in FNV allow you to shoot THAT far, shooting across cells even.
Deleted2547005User
kschang77 You've every fire a missile at a mountain far away from you? It doesn't do anything. So you can shot that far but you won't hit anything because nothing in that cell has loaded yet. ED-E's sensors will bring up everything that is loaded into the game in all of the surrounding cells, so none of what you see on the compass is beyond reach. A grenade launcher isn't designed for distance.
Skyviper086
Cool thank you for taking the time to give me some info on that. Just to make sure I understand you clearly. ED-E's sensors detect what's in other cells but what is being detected hasn't loaded yet. So if there were a way to target them I couldn't hit them? Skyviper086
Oh, cool! Any ideas how to get a mortar to work? I mean its like own personal artillery. Of course it make it more challenging if the enemy had it. ... Walking along and then ::::whhhiiiiiissssstttttlllllliiiiiinnnnnnnngggggggg::: BOOM! TrooperScooperMKII
There's a deployable turret mod somewhere, so I believe that this would be entirely possible, though I don't think that you could control it like a "normal" weapon...
Hyoukage
Technically, you can get your own mortars... in a fashion. First off, put the grenade rifle long barrel mod onto your grenade rifle/launcher of choice, this doubles your effective range. That won't have you landing 'em on the opposite mountaintop, but it's good for Mid-Range Artillery. Next up, grab yourself one of them fancy Fat Man pneumatic catapults, and install its' Little Boy mod so it doesn't weigh the better part of 30lbs.Grab that Weapon Mods Expanded option, and look around for the Enhanced Pneumatics mod, which doubles said Fat Man's range. Load some Mini Nukes, and bingo, instant artillery. Now, again, you won't be landing rounds like a Howitzer, but it'd work for an absolutely devastating mid-range artillery. Finally, you could find some way to have the entire wasteland for a good 3 cell radius loading, and try to hammer 'em that way... but that'd be pretty demanding on even the best gaming rigs. Also, if you have the GRA DLC pack, use Big Kid or Tiny Tot charges for more devastation. Just don't go nuking yourself. Cyberlazy
Heh, Try the HE shotgun rounds in CASE. Projectiles have been set with enough range that you can shoot straight up and 20 seconds later they land a few feet infront of you. I forget if I did similar for the 25/40mm rounds... Hyoukage
@Cyberlazy - I wouldn't know. I tried CASE once, didn't really like it. Could be due to FONV using the same crappy engine as FO3, but it CTD'd too often. One more "artillery" option for you... another method for LRFS (Long-Range Fire Support), is to load up a Missile Launcher with your choice of High-Velocity, High-Explosive and/or Hive (GRA) Missiles. HV Missiles get there faster, making them rather hard to dodge even when the target's moving.HE Missiles have a wider blast radius, again making them hard to avoid.Hive Missiles cut the damage into 8 (or 9) equal parts and scatter it across a normal Missiles' blast radius, with each "micro-missile" having the same blast radius as a grenade. Thus making them even harder to dodge.
