Perraine
The cube map is what the game uses to display different coloured light reflections from the mesh and it gets repeated continuously over the entire 'skin' of the armor, that's why they are very small, but the overall effect is very noticeable ... i.e. Dwarven armor uses the 'bronze' cubemap so that when you move around a light source it gives the armor a metallic/reflective bronze sheen ... Try the bloodshinybright one for a really evil blood red sheen (Daedric artifacts for instance) The are also used to give ore patches their distinctive colours as well hence the ***_ore.dds files Unlike a ***_s.dds Specular file which is (in most cases) just a greyscale version of the diffuse texture, with say metal parts being lighter white/grey and cloth/leather parts being dull grey/black, that gets 'wrapped' around the model as per the UV map (again, in most cases)
