debblu
Hi my name is Deb and I use to have hair but that is laying in small clumps besides me along side my sanity.I've am a first timer to pc gaming but a confirmed skyrim lover from console playing and after watching way too many hours worth of SSE on youtube and actually seeing the vast improvement v's game consoles I saved up and bought a computer with enough mojo to play it in all it's glory. So the game is now downloaded via steam from a new copy of skyrim special edition ( I don't know if that is a factor) and I've tested it only to the point of bumping along in that flipping wagon because I wanted to play using a game controller, this took hours of research too and I have my fingers crossed. The coordination needed for using keyboard/ mouse is beyond me due to medical reasons but that another story. I downloaded NMM as it is what nearly everyone seems to be using but this is where we come to a screeching halt. NMM will not recognise the game as the special edition, it does find a skyrim game but it doesn't read it as the SE. I've tried adding the file location manually but NMM keeps flashing up error messages, like the 'exe file or il? is missing. I ended up just entering the location from the information NMM listed for the basic skyrim game it seems to have found and started to download some of the mods that I wanted to try from the special edition list on nexus but I still get error messages and I just don't know enough to confidently continue. I don't have any real experience with computers but I can follow good instructions. Do I just go ahead and try to download the skyrim SE mods regardless to NMM not finding the SE game or do I have to download mods from the original mod list and hope they will work. See what I mean when I say I don't have much computer know how, Computers were new to the class room when I was at school and it still is a scary alien creature that will kill me with the press off the wrong key. All joking aside I'm honestly terrified with the idea of trying to add mods and all the talking of loading list ect has me wanting to roll up into a small ball in a dark corner and giving up the ghost but my Dad didn't raise a quitter and I won't learn unless I do so I really hope there is a very patient person on here who can help me out. Cheers Deb
WastelandAssassin
well , it sounds really weird that you have the SE version installed (I'm guessing you don't have the original Skyrim installed) , yet NMM finds that version insteadit's also really weird that you can't manually insert the location of the game to NMM , it sounds like something was wrong with your installation (though you were able to play the game , so I don't quite know what the problem might be) if you still can't fix NMM , I would suggest going with Mod Organizer 2I will freely admit it's a bit more complicated to work with , especially at firsthowever , after using it for quite a while , I will gladly pick it every time (at least until Vortex is released)there are plenty of tutorials out there , I usually go with Gopher's videos on YouTube , though there are a few others I really likeagain , it's a bit more of a learning experience , but I think in the long run it might be a better choice for you , if you are willing to take the time to learn how to use it properly I wish I was able to offer you more help with NMM , but I can't quite figure out the errors you get , and I haven't used it in quite a while nowhowever , I can point out that Skyrim (the original) and SE are two different games . this means that mods for one game won't work for the otheralso , NMM won't let you download SE mods if it doesn't recognize SE , so unless you make NMM recognize the game , you won't be able to use it to mod the game (at least not comfortably)what you could test is , try running NMM , select the Skyrim it found , and after it opens try running the game through NMMif it opens SE , maybe you could manually download mods and install them to NMM , but I'm really not sure it will work (again , haven't experienced similar errors , so never tested something like this)hopefully someone with more NMM experience will be able to provide you with better assistance regarding NMM and your issues
zcul
NMM actually should detect supported games that have been installed – includes Skyrim SE.You might uninstall NMM and reinstall it again. For installation on C:\ the installation path should beC:\Program Files\Nexus Mod ManagerBefore a re-installation you might take a look at Gopher’s most informative video guides - easy to follow. The links are herehttps://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/NMM_Video_Tutorials#Downloading_and_installing_NMM_.2802:06.29Although the vids are dealing with an older version of NMM, the steps are actually the same.Optional links on Nexus Wiki dealing with NMM:https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Category:NMMhttps://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/NMM_Video_Tutorials
Baer2x4
If NMM finds skyrim but not skyrim SE then you only have oldrim on your pc . You said you bought Skyrim SE, but are you sure it's not Skyrim LE? You can go to steam & d/l SSE for free if that is the case.
wfandrews
The window to get SSE for free with Skyrim and all the DlCs passed over a year ago. If NMM finds skyrim but not skyrim SE then you only have oldrim on your pc . You said you bought Skyrim SE, but are you sure it's not Skyrim LE? You can go to steam & d/l SSE for free if that is the case Did you launch SSE from the Steam launcher before trying to use NMM. You must do so in order to create the ini files which are necessary for NMM and other mod tools to work. To check go to Documents//My Games/Skyrim Special Edition and check to see if Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini files are there.
