Making old saves compatible with new mods?

Hello

I found my Oblivion save files that are over 6 years old now (over 122 hour of play time on them) and decided to install Oblivion with mods again and continue playing. I used Wrye Bash's save browser and found and installed most of the mods that I had installed back in the day and also added a few new mods.

Now, I remember, 6 years ago, reading that after installing new mods and you wanted to continue playing from an existing save file, you had to use some sort of console commands to load into a special area and then wait a certain number of days there (had something to do with "cells" if I remember correctly) and then you could continue playing. I tried Googling it but just couldn't find any information about it.

Can someone help me out here? Is my mind playing tricks on me or was/is it really required to do this console trick to use old save files with new mods?

Thanks

what you are referring to is using a coc command (probably to the testing hall http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Testinghall) , and waiting for enough time so that all cells reset

this makes sure you'll load all leveled lists correctly , if you have any mods that change these (mods that add enemies or items , as an example)

as for how long you have to wait , I think people usually recommended around 1-3 weeks in game , just to be sure that everything respawns properly (though if you have mods that change the respawn timers , you need to take these into account)

is this something you "have" to do? not necessarily

it really depends on which mods you are adding to the game

however , it is better to do this just in case , rather than have issues or miss some features

Yes, that's the one! Thank you so much for your fast reply!
