dommi132
I can log in to Nexus through the browser, but I can't log in through NMM. This has been happening for about a week. It says when I click to log in, in red letters it says "Cannot reach the Nexus login server. Either your firewall is blocking NMM or the login server is down." I have Xfinity and the modem that they send to me. I tried port forwarding, but either I didn't do it right or that was not the problem. Can any one help? Thanks. bbiller
First off, what version of NMM are you using? As you may know already NMM is going to be phased out with Vortex (I wouldn't switch yet, it's still alpha stage). The latest NMM is over on github, though finding the installer can be problomatic (someone else posted a link to a version on github in another post days ago on this form), so good hunting on that front. Second, if you have the Nexus website up and you're logged into it, then run NMM, that should fix the login issue. If not, check if you can still grab a mod through a NMM link. If you can, and NMM still brings up that error, you can probably ignore it. If however, you run the test above and you can't grab that file through the NMM link, then I would question a few other things:1. Is the NMM executable set to run with admin privilages? If not, fix that, as that deals with around 70 to 80 percent of the issues that come up with NMM.2. What firewall and OS are you running? Most around here are running Windows 7, a version of 8, or Windows 10. If you're using Windows built in firewall for 7, grab Comodo Firewall, or some other firewall program; install it, and start running the programs you use every day. You will have to set up the firewall rules as you go, but most have made this process fairly easy (with Comodo, select the "Treat program as" option, then select "Allowed Application", or the "Installer/Updater" option as appropriate when the popup shows up). Comodo will work with 8 or 10 in a similar manner and you get the added bonus of a tried and true software two-way firewall. I do work for Comcast by the way and that port forwarding is limited mostly to game consoles to deal with the NAT Type the consoles report to the user (used only when the NAT Type does not say "Open"). If you want to know what ports NMM is using, Comodo can tell you that.Process:A. Go ahead and run NMMB. Answer the Comodo popup as I mentioned earlier with "Allowed Application" at the second step of my above instructions (if it's there, else use "Installer/Updater").C. Open your web browser.D. See option B to deal with that popup.E. Head to the Nexus and log yourself in there.F. Grab a mod through the NMM link and if you get a popup from Comodo about NMM's current action, see B again.G. If all has gone well the mod should be in your NMM list, but not active.H. Head to Comodos' settings and look through the created rules for applications, find NMM on the list, and see what port rules are set up in the details for that application. If the mod was blocked from downloading, that port info from above will still help with setting up any forwarding you may need. Don't DMZ your computer, that opens up way too much attack surface. Hopefully that will help you and if you have an xfi enabled modem do head to "xfinity.com/apps" on your smartphone or tablet, the Xfinity Xfi app (among others) is there, and that will help with managing the gateway, so long as the gateway is communicating with the Internet at large, even if you're not in front of it (port forwarding is found in the advanced section at the bottom of the page after you click or tap on the "Network" heading option after you've logged into the xfi app with your Comcast username and password). dommi132
Thanks for your response. I tried to download comodo, but I think that the firewall is preventing me from downloading it online. Oddly enough, I got the internet security essentials without problem. I tried an offline option, but they all need to connect to the internet. Is there an alternative? I am using version 0.63.14 and NMM is set to be run with Admin. Being connected to the website does nothing for me as I am always connected to the website. I also have Kaspersky Antivirus if that helps. Also, I have had trouble before getting Kaspersky with getting programs to install that connect to the internet. I had to download an offline version for it to work. (This happened with installing Kaspersky.)
Moksha8088
You could always try disabling your Kapersky AV long enough to see if you can log on to the Nexus with NMM. If you can, then you might need to adjust the exclusion list.
Morrigan2
I was having this issue as well but I just discovered why. When I first signed up for NM I was using a username but the website login allows you to user either your username or email and I had switched to using my email. But NMM was failing when I tried logging om with my email for the last 2 days. But I found my old username and I tried that and it worked
