bben46
FYI: Skyrim is a 32 bit program. It can only see a maximum of 4GB Ram. And only if your system is a 64 bit running a 64 bit version of Windows. If you have more than 4G, then other programs - including Windows can use the Ram above 4G leaving the full 4G available for the game. If you have either a 32 bit windows, OR a 32 bit processor (CPU) then the max you can use is less than 4G - No matter how much ram you plug into it. Windows and a few other required programs will take up to .7G of your max 4G leaving about 3.3G available for the game if you have no other programs or background processes running. The good news is that 3.3G of ram should be sufficient to play. The bad news is that Skyrim, like all Gambryo engine games leaks memory - not as bad as earlier games, but it can still run out and crash after a while when it cannot recover memory properly. :wallbash: It would be great if there were a 64 bit version of Skyrim, but that would mean a complete remake of the entire game.
ozzyscl
Sorry to Necro an old thread, but I fell I need to post what was the fix for me. After trying algoboost, enb boost, the sound fix, lowering shadow quality, etc. I was still getting random ctd. I checked skyrim.Ini and skyrimprefs.ini and I realised that they were messed up, I mean instead of having a list of commands, I had a constant text message. What I did was remove both files and start the game from the launcher. This forced the game to check for settings, creating new ini files, I then selected the game the way I wanted and closed the launcher. The I started the game via skse launcher and after trial and error (my last save game was outside a mine) I tried loading a save game indoors, it worked, and I saved immediately. After that I haven't had any ctd or frozen game. And better yet I have now consistent 53 to 60 fps! Hope this helps you guys. All the best, Pablo.
