Vagamonk
Hello, I've been trying to fix the Esbern bug on my PC. I downloaded the bug fix zip from Skyrim Nexus and went to place it in the Data folder like the instructions say to do, but inside my steam programs folder, there isn't a "Data" Folder. there is a Steam apps folder and after I placed the new bug fix into that folder nothing changed in the game. I can (E) through the convo but Esbern never opens the door. Any help would be awesome guys. I know this subject has been beat to death already but the easy fix isn't working for me. Thanks! xlcr
hi Vagamonk, assuming you're talking about bug fix:Esbern Talk Fix v1 by halidbi1 - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10321 you'll need to extract the 438 sound files in archive 'Esbern_Talk_Fix-10321-1.rar' then copy/move these to this location:' \steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\sound\voice\skyrim.esm\maleuniqueesbern ' this is considered a 'loose files' fix which provides the game with the missing/inaccessible sound files that are supposed to be in game archives 'Skyrim - Voices.bsa' or 'Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa'. i find it hard to believe Bethesda still has not fixed these archives (this is the main quest for crying out loud),you might want to check your skyrim.ini and make sure the [Archive] search parameters section is correctly configured, should look somewhat like this +/- some entries: [Archive]sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa also, be sure your timescale is not set to a very low value or you might experience game script timing issues with Esbern opening the door.console command: show timescale , normal value is 20.00, reset if necessary using command: set timescale to 20 Edited April 22, 2012 by xlcr
Vagamonk
Thanks I'm gonna try your method this evening. I'll let you know how it goes. FYI, I didn't see a "Common" folder in the Steam/ steam apps folder. Can I create folders with those names and will the PC recognize them? or do they need to be present before hand? xlcr
hi Vagamonk, try searching your harddrives for 'TESV.exe', that's where Skyrim is installed and where the 'DATA' folder is located.so in other words, the RAR archive 'Skyrim Esbern Voice Fix.RAR' extracts to a folder called 'Skyrim Esbern Voice Fix'; inside that folder, you'll see a folder called 'SOUND', just copy and paste the 'SOUND' folder to your 'DATA' folder and you're done with the fix.umm, ignore any warning you might see from Windows if it complains about a 'sound' directory already existing lol. Vagamonk
See, that's the thing... There isn't a "Data" Folder to place the "Sound" folder into. The only folder inside the "SteamApps" folder is a "SourceMod" Folder. That's it. I think this is adding to my problem of not being able to do the Easy fix. xlcr
hi, don't give up yet lol, please perform a search with windows explorer of each of your hard drives for a file called: TESV.EXEthis file is located in the 'SKYRIM' install folder; and, you will see the 'DATA' sub-directory in there also.kindly suggest you disregard looking inside anything related to Steam's directory structure (like 'SteamApps'). fyi, Windows 7 has an easy search function that automatically searches all available drives for you, click 'Start' button, select 'Search' (should be listed), select 'For Files or Folders', type 'TESV.EXE' in the search box.. Vagamonk
Ok so I ran the search and found the TESV.EX folder but when I click on it I get an error that reads: The procedure entry point SteamUserStats could not be located in the dynamic link library steam_api.dll
xlcr
hi, after you run the windows search for file tesv.exe, look at the search results and determine where it is located, you'll see info about the parent folder path and drive letter listed where Windows search found file tesv.exe - - this is the location where either you or Steam installed Skyrim; and, where the 'DATA' directory is located that you are looking for.. This is the 'DATA' folder where you need to copy the Esbern Voice Fix 'SOUND' folder to.. fyi, by design the default Steam Skyrim install is into the Steam folders along with all other Steam games, for example here:C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim(unless you changed the Steam install path and/or forced Steam to install Skyrim to an alternate location/drive..) umm, i'm still trying to understand why you clicked and launched tesv.exe lol.anyway, try the search again and find file 'tesv.exe' and the 'data' folder which is in the same location..
