VIPkiller17
Many people including me want to hold the bow in the main hand and pull the string with the offhand, unfortunately that's not an official option and modifying the mappings directly from the controls file inside Skyrim_VR - Main.bsa doesn't seem to work. I'm very new to Skyrim modding and have no idea where to even start looking for this. I'm thinking that somewhere, when a bow is being equipped by the player, the game checks which is the player's main hand and equips the bow in the offhand. My idea would be to reverse that check so it simply puts in the main hand. Where would that check be? Does it even exist? If not, where to begin? Is it even possible to do that right now in the creation kit or by modifying some other file?
WastelandAssassin
I'm pretty sure you are incorrect hereif I am not mistaken , the bow is always assigned to the same hand , because of how the animations workthe bow is always assigned to the left hand , because it is how the bow animations workso if I am correct here , what you really have to do is recreate all bow animations to use the bow with the right hand and draw with the leftbut I'm not 100% certain about this

You would be right if i were talking of normal skyrim but i'm talking of VR. When the player set their right hand as their main hand, the bow is held in their left hand. If their main hand is left, then the bow is held in the right. Everything is already there, i just need to know how to make it hold in the main hand instead of offhand. WastelandAssassin
seriously? Bethesda actually did some work on this version of the game?color me surprised as all hellsorry for the mistake , I assumed the game wasn't changed in the VR version , but I don't own a VR so I couldn't say for sure if I see anything related to this , I'll be sure to drop by and link itand thanks for correcting me , you live and you learn :)
WastelandAssassin
this got me thinkingif you say that both animations are there in the game , what would happen if you were to rename the left handed bow versions to the right ones , and vice versa?this could actually work , though it could cause more issues , but maybe it's worth a try to see if this works (it's not the most elegant of solutions , but maybe it'll work)

The bow itself has one animation, the same for both sides, at least i would think so because the models are symmetric and all you would have to do is place the model in the different hand. Point is, it would be useless and just more work for the devs to make 2 completely different bow variants. Also when i checked in the CK i didn't see any different version for the bows. I'm still going to see what i can do with that idea though.

Algabar
Forgive me this half-OT post, but I couldn't resist: Historically, what Bethesda does is correct. Medieval archers as well as today's sports archers normally hold the bow with their "off-hand" and pull the string with their "main hand". Someone who normally prefers to use his/her right hand, would hold a bow with the left hand. Simple reason: Using a bow - especially those famous medieval longbows - requires a lot of power. And usually, our "mainhand" arm is slightly stronger...
