Slurring shadows - almost unplayable

Hey there. Just got Skyrim out of the box yesterday and immediately hit a game-killer: all the shadow maps slur whenever I move the camera, so they don't line up with the things they are supposed to match. They snap back into place quickly and the game usually looks fine when I hold the camera still, though there are still large black flickery shadows in unlikely places most of the time. I've searched and searched, but the onyl topics I've seen describing this problem are unsolved. The only solution I've worked out is to switch off the shadows entirely, but then the game doesn't look a lot better than Oblivion.

It happens with or without mods, and I'm running version 1.5.76.05 of the game, on Windows 7 under Bootcamp with a nVidia GeForce GT 120 and 4GB of RAM. My system might be a bit on the old side but I haven't yet come across a game it can't run smoothly on medium-high graphics settings, and I'm pretty sure the drivers are up to date. I am pretty sure the drivers are up to date.

Does anyone have any advice?

lol 'bumped out of sight' is a contradiction, you just bumped it so it can be seen again. Just so you know this isnt the most widely viewed forum, and guess people think your questions been resolved a million times and not worth answering. If you google skyrim flickering shadows youd see theres been alotof unhappy campers on this issue (btw how did you turn the shadows off?)

Try the ini settings in this guide for a start

Yeah, well... nudged out of sight maybe.

No, my problem isn't flickering shadows, unfortunately as that one has been solved dozens of times. What my shadows are doing is not moving correctly, as if the shadows are on a different layer and the shape's been cut out of it, but the shadow layer's not quite keeping up with the rest of the graphics. This means if I see someone run, there will be a pale man-shaped patch of no shadow following him, or if I stand in shadow and looks at a sunlit bit of gorund, then move my camera about, the shape of my weapon in shadow will appear on the ground for a second after I move. In places where there are strong shadows this makes me feel like I've been smoking somehting I really shouldn't have.

I turned my shadows off by setting their interior, exterior and LOD distance to 0. That seems to have turned most of them off, but has the drawback that things like candles don't cast any light now, so loads of areas are way too dark and I have to use my torch a lot.

Thanks for the answer, just tried those settings now and they didn't work.

oh right. so you going to update new graphics drivers? Its probably been tried allready but worth checking if deleting the skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini (but not if your using a higher ugridstoload) to generate new ones helps. Itll make the game recheck your graphics card, and load the game at its recommended defaults if your not using an enb profile Edited by nisen

All is good.

Tweaks helped with performance. But crazy shadows and green under water were only fixed

by updating driver. How do I know if I have " Hybrid Power technology"? Don't want to burn up

my computer.

Compatibility Exceptions:

1. Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology with Intel chipsets are not supported

(NVIDIA Optimus technology is supported).

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-820QM, 1.73-3.06

Video Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 280M 1,024MB

Windows 7 Home P 64-bit, 6 GB RAM, INTEL SSD SA2CW
