Troubles with buggy MMM

I've been playing Oblivion with the MMM mod for about a week, and have been having problems with it. Namely, lots of missing meshes, mysterious crashes, etc. Last night, the game suddenly started crashing very frequently. Half the time I loaded a saved game it would crash, as well as whenever one of the barbarians drew his weapon.

So, having been fed up with the crashes, I disabled all of the MMM esm and esp files. And guess what? I am still seeing MMM content in the game! I tried simply deleting the MMM esm and esp files, but then Oblivion would immediately crash after changing to fullscreen. After that, I restored all of the files from the recycling bin.

Trying another solution, I activated all of the esm and esp files, loaded Oblivion, and then quit. After that, I disabled all of the esm and esp files, loaded Oblivion, and then started a new game. During the second part of the dungeon, I looted the dead goblin shaman, and found that the body was carrying items from MMM!

So, how do I correct this problem, and can I do it without reinstalling Oblivion?

BTW: Using OBMM is not an option for me. It uses the .NET framework, which does not work on my system.

Get and install WryeBash it doesn't require the .NET framework.

Well, I've already reinstalled Oblivion. I was originally going to just wait for a reply, but then an imperial soldier attacked a monster with a missing mesh, and the game crashed. That's about when I decided to reinstall.

But thanks for the advice, I'll remember that if I ever encounter a similar problem again.
