Draconerus Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Every now and then characters and NPC's will get blotched black faces. I have tried the High Res DLC Black Face fix mod here https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21907/ it will fix it sometimes and then other times not. It comes back and I have to reinstall the mod a few times for it to work again. Is there any other method or fix for this?
Bloodjinn903 Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 is the fix at the top of the load order? if there is even a plug in for it, not sure. also when you install the mod are you overwriting the other files.
Draconerus Posted April 14, 2018 Author Posted April 14, 2018 It is not on the top of the load order, it is just supposed to downscale some of the textures. I wasn't even using the high res textures but I still get this bug. I was just wondering if there are any other solutions to resolve it.
shatsnazzle Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 The DLC Black Face Fix download you linked to and Rusty Face Fix are the only ones I know of that offer actual permanent/preventative solutions like you're looking for. If they don't do the trick there are a few workarounds: You can try quicksave/quickloading, that fixes it sometimes although not reliably and waiting for load times gets old fast in my opinion. You can download LooksMenu, save your face as a preset, and then just switch to that preset to reset your face. Never tried this but a lot of people do it. Or you can check out an upload from me that does something similar to the LooksMenu approach but automates it. Brown Face Glitch Workaround There's a couple other workarounds but none of them really impress me. I prefer to either automate a workaround or just fix it outright.
bill8872 Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 I do not think there is a permanent fix for this, as it more of a game engine bug over anything else. I don't use any of the three mod's mentioned, as I don't really need them during normal play.It happens to my char. if the game load's to slow, or if I have to reload a save during playing, mostly due to getting killed.I do use looks menu, and I do think it is part of the reason it happens. The game just dose not like custom faces. Quitting, and reloading works for me every time. So does doing anything that makes the game reload, like fast travel.Same goes for the companion appearance changers I have. Most never get the black face bug, Piper get's it regularly.Mods like Unique NPC's can, and does make some permanently have the black face bug. Settlers mostly, but I think it is responsible for a few quest NPC's to have disfigured faces. In truth this is just something I have learned to live with. Since the only permanent fix can only come from Bethesda. Fat chance on this one.
Draconerus Posted April 15, 2018 Author Posted April 15, 2018 I will try some of these. Thank you so much!

Would your brown face mod work with NPC's as well?

BlazinOnYa Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 yo its been almost a year now and i have played ever since fallout 4 came out but Bethesda havnt even patched this glitch yet and i have done so many things but i just cant find out how to fix this? anyone have any ideas as of March 21st 2019?
dobrique Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 tbh in 90% of the cases reloading the game fixes it, as well as leaving the zone and coming back later, the engine reloads all the npc's and their faces and often fixes them that way.
