Start a new game but keep quest progress?

I know this title seems contradictory, But hear me out.

Sometimes when modding Skyrim you mod as you play the game and make a few hundred hours of progress via quests. Some mods are so big or change so much, they suggest that you apply their mod on a new game. Is there anyway I can have the conditions that I've started a new game but keep my quest and character progress?

I don't think this is possible. There's a reason some mods suggest (in a few cases, require) that you start a new game.

When modding while playing, it's a good idea to keep things light and not get overly invested in the character you're using while building your mod list. Once you're happy with your mod list and game stability, full-speed ahead!

I agree it would be nice, though. :)

Thanks for the cheerful reply. I guess I'll play around first before... well, playing around lol.

Well I think the only way to carry over would be to look at your list of completed quests and using the setstage <quest id> <stage value> cheat to complete the quests you have already completed. This may take quite a bit of work between writing out the quests you have completed, googling the quest ID's from a wiki.

However I probably wouldn't do this for the Main Quests!

No, it is not possible, and trying to force quest completion would not work as there may be scripted actions and intermediate stages throughout the quest that would be bypassed.

You can get a save back to a very clean state with all mods removed, basically a vanilla save at what ever point of the game you are at. Then you are able to ad what ever mods you like. I did this with a old rim save I had. It was a level 76 save.

So not a new game but at least a clean restart.

This is a good guide. I cleaned out the old rim save. Saved it with no mods in skyrim se, then added the mods i wanted and have played with no issues.
