turbosnowy
Hi all, There is a mod on oblivion nexus which I've amended somewhat - the oblivion mod is : http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=38869 However, someone on another site which shall not be named has told me that if I posted my version here I would be banned even for posting an image of my work... so what's the score? How do I find out if something is ok or not, and why would something be ok on Oblivion nexus but not on Skyrim (assuming the guy is right)? Would post pics of my version but don't want to get banned lol. Any ideas on how to check if something is cool or not before uploading would be appreciated. Cheers, Turbosnowy Edited April 24, 2012 by turbosnowy
jet4571
from the Credits and distribution permission: Other user's assets Some assets in this file belong to other authors. You will need to seek permission from these authors before you can use their assets Upload permission You are not allowed to upload this file to other sites under any circumstances Conversion permission You are not allowed to convert this file to work on other games under any circumstances Modification permission You must get permission from me before you are allowed to modify my files to improve it Asset use permission You must get permission from me before you are allowed to use any of the assets in this file Author notes This author has not provided any additional notes regarding file permissions File credits This author has not credited anyone else in this file Upload permission, original mod at: http://tes.nexusmods.com, you want to put it at http://skyrim.nexusmods.com. That's a NO. Technicaly could be a yes since they are both part of the Nexus but Conversion permission, That's an oblivion mod. you want to convert it to Skyrim. That's a no. turbosnowy
Ah OK I thought Nexus was treated as one site heh and see the point about conversion. OK that makes sense I guess. Shame though - will see if I can contact the creator, or if not will remain a personal frivolity only :o( Thanks for the response Edited April 24, 2012 by turbosnowy

Anyway, if YOU HAVE permission by the legitimate author to use its assets for Skyrim porting (only assets ILLEGAL are those by Bethesda at the moment) than you can post pics and the files. BUT FIRST YOU MUST BE GRANTED PERMISSION BY THE AUTHOR ON TES NEXUS. That should be the real rule, as long as I remember.

BUT FIRST YOU MUST BE GRANTED PERMISSION BY THE AUTHOR ON TES NEXUS. That should be the real rule, as long as I remember. Actually assets from any mod or game is illegal not just those by Bethesda unless permission to use them is granted. And it is a rule that any ported or used assets that you did not create must have the permission. As for screenshots? that wont get you banned unless it contains adult content, has an offsite URL for distribution or pm for it on the screenshot. As long as you dont distribute it they cannot say anything about it and I really doubt the author would care as long as the distribution rule is followed. turbosnowy
Thanks for the helpful and informative responses guys - you have helped a lot :) To let you know I have contacted the original author, and he liked my prototypes, in fact so much he gave free reign to port and play around with any of his stuff (YAY!). So am a happy camper right now - thanks again!
TheDarkPrince
Good for you my modding friend! :) Just remeber, (in case), if the permission you've been given is by message or by e-mail try to attach it somehow to the mod once you release it AND REMEBER TO GIVE CREDITS! Don't forget, never, that you were helped by the work of others so that they deserve the credit they've been given! :) Good luck to you!
