jaysus
would be cool :) its not hard to learn... i never mapped anything before that contest nor did i put a model into oblivion... just find a tutorial and use it once for one of your projects... the 2nd time will be easier and the third youll find shortcuts... the fourth will prolly be quite perfect :)good luck

LoginToDownload
Ooo, any hints about texturing? All the tutorials still make it seem insanely hard.
jaysus
use layers... get yourself a good steel and a good leather texture... use google image search if you need somin else... once you mapped an objectuse the magic wand selection to select the empty space around the objects downsize by 2 pixelsinvertadd in selectionuse the filling options (right click on a layer)to add some shining light from the outside to the inside for the 3d effectadd some ornaments by hand or by download and use the filling option again to make it look engraved... use colour overlay maybe to change it to a dark yellow which will resemble goldsave as dds (dxt3 and 4mipmaps) - get the exporter from nvidia.com use the nvidia tools normal map filter with usually the default adjustments only the height should be higher somin between 10 and 20 instead of 5save as samename_n.dds damn my vent stopped working later o_O
LoginToDownload
Many thanks, but I meant getting the textures to "work" with the meshes properly. I've only ever tried it in Blender, and that's a process that involves "unwrapping" all of the faces to the flat surface of the texture and working off that. The ability to move said faces around on the canvas only goes so far for me. You know any good 3D Paint programs that can reasonably export to .nif and .dds formats? jaysus
gawd i hate my vent lol... i started humming i gave it a slight slapping and it just stopped... phew cpu killer lol... nah sry :/ i did it with that unwrapping too... zbrush can do that i think but never used it so no idea...once unwrapped the fun part starts... unwrapping once you understand it gets quite easy tho... the problem are usually only either spherical object or objects with faces in all possible angles... and also the fact that it takes nearly as long as the modelling itself lol also the aligning if you use ornaments or need transitions between two unwrapped "fields"can be a pain in the ass but nif tools i great as a preview tools for that matter... blender can paint textures right on the object too i think... back in class we did somin like that... the problem with that technique is that you cant define exact borders which can be quite important for example if you make a handguard for a sword which you have in view all the time... as to my lil tutorial above... you still need to change the alpha channels of the *.dds and the *_n.dds accordingly to your used shaders, the reflection and special effects like the notorious highlight shader (which sucks btw)
shadowace
I have a problem Unwrapping the everything.
jaysus
just so you guys get an idea the yellow thing id do as 3 planes instead of 1 boxalways keep seperate things seperate - aka dont do a plane for blade and upper/lower guar, do one for blade and one for upper/lower guard instead
