How can I obtain seprate items from a mod?

I found a mod that has a cool pair of boots that I'd think look good on my Angel of Death chick (awesome character I made I mean she's not a mod but I'd like to think she's an Angel of Death.)

 

First how would I go about getting just the boots from the mod when the mod author has been banned? I'm not going to republish this work however

I don't like tweaking people's stuff without talking to them first ... even if its for personal use and would never be published. I own two copyrights and they aren't cheap so I have a deep and profound respect when It comes to dealing with other people's work.

 

Anyway I digress. Is there a simple process for a complete novice like me or is this something for a professional to do?

Say wha? I don't get what copyright has to do with anything. They published the mod in the first place, I assume, so they wanted others to use it.

I don't see the point in asking for permission to use it in your game and no others. Just do it. If you just can't bear to do it without consulting the person you would have to know of another way to contact them, outside of this site.

 

As an aside, what do you mean you own 2 copyrights and "they aren't cheap"? Copyright exists at the act of creation and costs nothing (in the US anyway. Defending one is another issue of course).

I have two registered copyrights one for a book another for an article. All in all around $140 to get them registered through the library of congress.

 

Now that I know its cool to use others work for my own ... how do I go about tweaking the clothing items? Is this something an novice can do or does this take time?

It depends how severely you want to tweak them, and their beginning state. Most likely nothing you want to do takes years of training.

Cool. Basically all I would like to do is remove the footwear from an outfit and make it to wear I can take the footwear and equip it with another outfit.

 

I appreciate the time people take to make the clothing and armor mods ... the one thing that bugs me is that not all of allow for different footwear. One mod author, Micalov, was cool enough to remove the footwear on a cool outfit he made for the type three http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/45756 which allowed the user to use other stuff.

 

These "fashion" mods are cool but there are some things that I'd like to mix with others.

Skyviper, I don't have a clue how to do what you're wanting but you may want to download The SkinnyWear Shop That mod has a lot of mix and match clothing for the Skinny Body Replacer. Even though the Skinny Bodies were way to skinny for may taste you may be able to see what they have done and get some ideas from it.

The mod that I was wanting to use has a pair of boots that go just above the knee.
