Headband Items

Been looking at a number of would-be "hybrid race" mods that accomplish this effect through equipment. I speak of the ones that let you add some cuteness to the Wastelands via equippable ears and tails of the cat and wolf varieties, among others...

Through use of FNVEdit, I find some rather odd quirks in the FalloutNV.esm file, and the Lonesome Road .esm file... namely a select number equipment items taking up equipment slots what make no sense.

The Wolf and Cat Ears provided by the mod "kaw Cat Outfits for New Vegas" take up the Headband slot.

Now, some items, such as Helmets, also take this slot, among others. With helmets and hats, I can see taking the headband, hair, and hat slots, as they cover the entire head.

However, certain equipment with the Headband slot on their tags make no sense.

The Lobotomite Goggles, Breathing Mask and Ulysses' Mask are all such examples.

I'm wondering how one would go about altering this... situation's outcome, without somehow ruining the game.

Another example of "no sense" is the fact the Valence Radii-Accentuator and Atomic-Valence Tri-Radii-Oscillator both take up the hair slot, which is odd, as neither is a helmet.

Well, you to into GECK and change them to... I dunno, earrings? Facemasks?

Well, they are worn as headgear as they appear around your head when worn.

True, the glowing ring headgear does go on the head... but they could be set up like Jessup's Bandana which doesn't cover your hair.

Every hat and helmet uses the headband slot (slot 9). There is absolutely ZERO reason or need to remove that slot from anything.

Hm, really?

Tell me this: How does a basic Breathing Mask take up a Headband slot? Or a set of Lobotomite Goggles? Or Ulysses' Mask (a unique Breathing Mask)?

In all three cases, the item in question makes no sense, having taken the headband slot. And in all three cases, they don't cover what a headband item would cover.

Namely, the top of your head.

Another pair of oddballs would be the Valence Radii-Accentuator and the Atomic-Radii Tri-Valence-Oscillator. Both are worn as one would wear a hat or helmet, but both are quite open to the sky. As such, either item covering your hair (and making you bald), once again, makes no sense. These are both best described as "Technology Halos", as that is what they remind me of. Mind, I've never seen a bald angel, just cuz the fella was wearing his halo that day.

Just make a mod that removes that 'slot' from each armors geck entry you disapprove of. Simple as that.

No need to get permission. You just do it.

Good point...

I was looking at the Surgical Mask in the GECK, here's what I found...

Surgical Mask - Nose Ring, Mask, Mouth Object

Ok, simple 'nough, right? Now, look at the Breathing Mask, which covers the same area on your characters' face...

Breathing Mask - Headband, Mask

Notice the difference? I did, too. So, I dug into the entries for the Breathing Mask, and Ulysses' Mask (which shares the Breathing Masks' issue), and changed them to match the Surgical Mask... so we get...

Surgical Mask - Nose Ring, Mask, Mouth Object

Breathing Mask - Nose Ring, Mask, Mouth Object

Ulysses' Mask - Nose Ring, Mask, Mouth Object

Now, if I knew how to make a new plug-in module, instead of editing an existing one, I would happily include it on FNVNexus for others.

As I don't... well, I'm S.O.L.

Thanks for the heads-up, nivea.

And thank you for the tip regarding making plug-ins, Cyberlazy, I'll keep that one in mind. As it is, I was editing the plug-in for "kaw Cat Outfits for New Vegas". Did it so I could wear Breathing/Ulysses' Mask with the new headband options.

(The fact I manage to pull of a post-Armageddon wolfgirl in night-ops camo look in the process is just a bonus on rather nice pay-off.)
