ThaJewishPanda
So my understanding to enchantment isnt all that great right now... I disenchanted some items the first day i played and I can't disenchant the same enchantment item that is better? Meaning.... i disenchanted lets say... less spell cast 3% and now i want to disenchant less spell cast 25%.... but it is blacked out. What i am asking is there a way i can change this? Because if not this means... that one the first day playing i messed up my late game of this game and figuring it out a week later >.< And i have mods on but I didn't see one on anything like this.... SineWaveDrox
When you disenchant, you gain the ability to apply that enchantment effect, but the magnitude of the enchantment is not set. The magnitude scales up as your enchanting skill increases.

But lets say I wait and disenchant something that is like 20%... then use potions and other stuff to bonus my enchantment. That might get me to a 25-29% bonus on what i want. But what your saying is that if i disenchant something that is 8% then that's not the actual %???
fms1
What determines the magnitude of the enchant IS your skill + perks in enchanting, and potions that raise the enchant effect. 8% or 20% doesn't matter, it's the same enchantment.

Zephyr2011
When you disenchant something you learn the effect. When you go to enchant something you can pick any of the effects that you have learned. When you are in the process of enchanting the magnitude is calculated by your skill and perks alone. The magnitude of the enchantment you destroyed to learn the effect no longer has any bearing. So you're perfectly fine and you're late game isn't harmed in the least. Now, where disenchanted magnitude does come into play is experience. You gain more experience the more money an enchanted item is worth. So if you disenchant a piece of armor with say 8% cheaper destruction spells then you walk out of town and go to a dungeon and find one that has 50% cheaper destruction spells you can feel a little bitter because you missed out on some pretty good enchanting experience (as you can't disenchant the new piece) but your later magical adventures won't be harmed in any way by this, you just missed out on some easier experience in the early stages of enchanting. So it's usually advisable to hold out on enchanting a bit until you have some enchanted objects higher than tier one (better than say enchanted iron or leather) so that you have a better bump when you actually start enchanting, this also coincides with when you have better access to the soul gems that are actually worth it. (petty and lesser souls are basically only worth powering though a stack of silver rings for some quick experience) My personal strategy is to hoard the stuff until around level 15 or so or until I find something with a soul trap enchantment so that I can fill soul gems really easily and then just enchant every little piece of schwag I find. I hope this helped clear things up and also gave you some pointers on enchanting.
NoobusExtremus
I haven't done much enchanting lately, but I think that along with your enchanting skills and buffs, the size of the soul gem makes a difference in the final strength of the enchantment. Try selecting a gem with common, note the percentage, then switch to a greater or grand gem and note the percentage.
