FIXED/SOLVED

Turn shadow quality from ultra to high. Seems ultra quality on shadows in the thing that disagrees with the gpu. Now I have 91 mods to reinstall. Thanks!!

EDIT OF DOOM-

OK HOOOOOLY s***

I got the artifacts to f*** off by setting the settings to the absolute lowest. All options off. minimal fade. all advanced options low or off. Gonna start toggling things to see if i can nail down a specific suspect setting. Will update. I love you all. God damn.

Basically when I'm outside I get random black squares floating midair like graphical bugs. These expand slowly usually as you look around but can be 'wiped off' by looking so they are off screen momentarily. If they cover the whole screen you must restart to get vision back. When you move your view they 'drag' like old laggy windows in XP. Or the cards jumping in solitaire. you probably know what I mean. Walking outside in whiterun or in general has become a minigame to prevent the boxapocalypse. This happens vanilla too. I can't figure out how to make it go away. Verified files. Updated drivers. I'm attempting a reinstall now but my internet is slow AF so I'll probably not be done with that till tomorrow. Pls save me from the black boxes of doom. This is so frustrating.

EDIT: YES IT HAPPENS ON A FRESH INSTALL TOO f*** ME

edit2, Still happens with clean driver installs.

somebody with the same card as me has the same issues so I'm like 90 percent sure its my gpu. I just dunno how to fix it since their problem was also unsolved.

Other cases that seem the same that I've found.

I'm pretty sure these are all the same guy ;-; I messaged him to see if he has a fix.

jjb54 yes it happens on a clean install. As in I just uninstalled skyrim, deleted all files I could find, reinstalled, and then ran a new game with nothing mod wise installed. Still, sky squares of death. Even on the intro wagon ride, death squares.

I saw this a number of years back and am trying to find the posts / thread ...

I noticed you said - NO MODS - I hate to " nit pick " but sometimes the answers have to found in a step-by-step process.

Did you try a clean save w/ * NO * DLC's or the HIGHREZ add-ons that come w/Skyrim?

BTW - my friends call me Jj .... be a friend. :)

Umm I don't actually know how to disable the dlc's in skyrim special edition. The esms that are enabled (in fact showing at all in nexus mod manager since everything else is uninstalled) are

skyrim.esm

update.esm

dawnguard.esm

hearthfires.esm

dragonborn.esm

I would just uncheck the box to the left but its grayed out like I cant. And the launcher doesn't seem to have an option to enable or disable esms.

oh also it happens regardless of resolution, fullscreen or not, borderless or not.

Okay, go to:

< DRIVE >:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data

In there you will find the Dawnguard - Hearthfires and Dragonborn.

Make a BACKUP directory in this folder and move the DLC's to that file, so that they do NOT show and more to the point, LOAD.

Then try Skyrim w/out the DLC's and start a new game ....

Also - does this happen w/any of your other games???

Also, since this is Skyrim SE designed for 64 bit machines, can your computer handle this???

Same thing happens with no dlc.

I have not had any issues with a ton of other games including fallout 4 modded to hell and back, doom, bioshock infinite, etc.

As for specs..

16gb ddr3 ram

AMD fx 8350 eight core proc.

1tb hdd with around 160 free still.

Radeon r9 390 series GPU

This was not the site I was thinking .... but read it and see if it applies?:

Performance on my setup - AMD FX 8350, R9 390

Outside Helgen cave, I'm getting 40 FPS, and in Riverwood it decreases to 27-30. Anyone with similar configuration achieving the same performance?

I'll continue to " look " ...
