odinlord2011
Is it possible for olfina to become Jarl? On one my previous playthroughs, I killed vignar whilst he was jarl of whiterun with a good ol' arrow to the head from the second floor of dragonsreach. Of course, I made him non-essential before first. After the deed, cries of "Murder in cold blood" were sputtered by Vignar's surrounding kinsmen and guards. My questions, as such, are : ( 1 ) If I kill Vignar when he's Jarl, will Olfina take his place as jarl?( 2 )If I kill Vignar BEFORE he's Jarl, will Olfina instead take his place as jarl during the Battle of Whiterun? WIll she take over Vignar's lines? Or... will I just break the game by killing Vignar via console disablement of essential status. Much appreciated if anyone could confirm/answer my questions, and I hope this post was easy reading on the eyes. Really my first post on any forum in a few months.Cheers! No one will ever replace him if he is killed because he is never meant to be killed. As for killing before he becomes Jarl it is impossible normally as he is always set to essential. If you do kill him and then take Whiterun for the Stormcloaks I have no proof but I'm fairly certain something will break as he is needed for the scene in main hall with Balgruuf to advance. However if you are wanting to take Whiterun for the Imperials his death should not effect anything. Its similar to how I always kill that woman in Dawnstar that would normally take over for Skald but because I side with the Stormcloaks nothing in the game goes wrong. Edit: Besides why would you want to kill Vignar? He is awesome. Edited April 29, 2012 by The7Sins
odinlord2011
Well, to I don't really like to have Vignar in power because of the blood feud between the families, and that he'll probably do nothing to try to mend the wounds between the 2. .Olfina would be a perfect candidate as she's already friendly with on eo fthe Battle-Borns. Political Marriage, but nevertheless also a happy one as they're both romantically inclined towards each other. ...........and also because the wikia entry says "He does not like it, but when he dies his housecarl and niece, Olfina Gray-Mane, take his place as Jarl of Whiterun"Reference Wikia Page Just got curious, is all. BrettM
I have no idea where the wikia got that. To me, it would make more sense if Thorvald was Vignar's heir. Olfina just doesn't seem the type to handle being jarl.

As for the question of whether your game will either replace Vignar with Olfina or anyone else if he dies or if your game will break, the answer is your game will break. The reason some npc characters have that label "essential" is because without them the portion of content that involved them would be lost with no fix. Anyone who is labeled as anything but essential can be killed and the game will run perfectly and without any flaws. DagothDagonAlduin
Todd Howard said before release that if you killed people like innkeepers, other people would take there place and give you the quests that the innkeepers would've given you. Sadly, Todd was bullshiting.

cadenchewyoreo
Weird, I just killed Vignar, and Baalgruff returned and his entire family. That's odd.
TeofaTsavo
Hmm. I do Imperial play throughs, and always end up assassinating Vignar because he refuses to shut up about the Stormcloak after they lose.
