Aerin Morth
Lets forget about the graphical quality. Oblivion will always beat Morrowind there. It's a generational thing. But I still feel Morrowind has the edge on its little brother, (big sister?) The combat in Morrowind was of course a little funky, Ok. But it's not exactly Tekken in Oblivion either. I 've played neither for the quality of their fights. Cyrodiil's beautiful and vast but very , very, very green. The feel of Vvardenfell, especially its diversity and atmosphere in places like the Ashlands made it seem bigger than it was.(change all these tenses to present if you're still playing btw  ) I loved the Great Houses of Morrowind. I loved the Telvanni and Redoran cities and their architecture. I loved the faceless Ordinators, the shops you could steal from, the random loot or baddies you could discover. The open cities. The soulgems you could actually tell apart from each other. The pauldrons. Cool looking Glass armour. The transport system. Spears and throwing weapons. The inventory! ...... Hang on though. Don't get me wrong. I love Oblivion, I really love it and had I played it first I would probably be listing the dozens of things it has that Morrowind doesn't.It's made some real improvements. I just think it sometimes feels, if you really compare the two, that Bethesda didn't really take the best bits of TesIII and build on them. They threw a lot of the coolest stuff out so our computers would handle the new hugeness. My head says one, my heart another but they both rock and I have both so who cares. Mods can fix everything anyway. I agree with everything said above. Oblivion will always beat Morrowind with graphics quality, but Morrowind will always feel so much more immense for me. Oblivion is very green, and although the landscape changes throughout Cyrodiil, it's still somewhat similar. In Morrowind, you could walk to Balmora from Seyda Neen and pass through four different environments in one day. It's true that the combat system leaves something to be desired, but you get over it once you learn to never try and shoot a bow. I also love the factions in Morrowind much better than the factions in Oblivion. In MW, it made you feel like you had accomplished something after you completed a quest. Becoming Archmage of the Mages Guild actually made you feel proud of yourself, instead of immediately bored like in OB. Obviously there are plenty of mods made to fix almost everything in both Morrowind and Oblivion, but Morrowind still has a special something about it that Oblivion doesn't quite achieve. Leenysaurus
I love both games. I'd call it equal, but I see their vast differences. I barely played Morrowind enough to see the half of it, and every now and again I try to get back into it, but there's still so much to see. I think Oblivion was a step down in a few ways. Many spells were gone, far fewer factions, a more "generic" landscape (in my opinion). And the options for weapons is far less. It was also a step up. Vast options for customizing a character, much better combat, amazing visuals. Skills made a bit more sense, especially in terms of the removal of the awkward medium armor. And more light armor ... I felt Morrowind had no light armor to speak of. Mods vary greatly between the two as well. I feel that Oblivion needs the gameplay mods more than Morrowind, whereas Morrowind needs the visual help. Content-wise, Oblivion is less than Morrowind, but it makes it no less of an amazing game to me, the modding capabilities intensely make up for any flaws. You can fix things at will. But Morrowind has memories ... I was so stuck on it when I came across it in my Dad's game collection all those years ago, thought it looked cool, plopped it in the Xbox, and there I was for days on end, for weeks. Fun times. Morrowind is nostalgic for me. so it will always remain in my collection. Bethesda does not disappoint me - and for these great games alone that's where I really want to seek a job when I'm out of college.
kylebraden
I began playing oblivion about a year before I began playing morrowind. I was telling m friend about oblivion, and he informed me that he had a copy of he previous game in the series, morrowind. I went over to his house and played it, and was immediately consumed by the vast awesomeness of it. i was practically in tears that I had to go home, without this awesome game accompanying me. I quickly purchased a back comp. patch for my 360, and searched every gamestop in the city for a copy of morrowind. I eventually found one, and eagerly went home and started playing it. Ive basically mastered oblivion, and seen everything it has to offer. now, i agree that it has much better graphics and combat than its predacessor, but it seems that they sacrificed so much to gain so little. graphics and combat barely seem like a fair tradeoff for abandoning nearly every armor variant from morrowind, along with its wider range of guilds, quests, locations, terrain, creatures, enchantments, spells, and items in general. Morrowind had (has) so many more possiblities than its shiny brother oblivion. When you look past all the trivial oblivion improvements, youll realize how much content bethesda sacrificed to polish oblivion.
firefable
Well, i haven't played morrowind yet, but i would just like to say, that i get bored with oblivion on its own, if i play oblivion, i must have some mods active, i just can't go without mods anymore. I wold just get bored and probably go off playing another game.
kylebraden
I know what you mean. I played through every oblivion quest that i had interest in doing on the 360, and then i didnt know what to do. eventually i went out and bought the pc version of oblivion so i could do mods. (and mess around with the control, but that made me feel shallow and dirty... shudders....)
Lainge
I just got Morrowind GOTY and turned into a werewolf. Only reason why Morrowind might ever be better... Inbuilt awesome werewolves...
helzi
The Morrowind werewolves were the best! The idea of running around like a dog was definitely the best. I loved the way the people reacted - but I didn't like the wildlife. The only animal that didn't attack you was a scrib. In Oblivion, the deer were the first thing I noticed. WHOOP WHOOP FOR DEER! :D
Lainge
The little animation that played at the start of every time you transform was awesome. The werewolf mod for oblivion is good enough though (and I have 100 willpower so I can feed on animals) so I'm pretty happy with being a werewolf in both games. I was looking around and saw the Morroblivion like mod with the long name. Mournhold-Vardenfal-Solsthiem or something like that. So I'll be able to play morrrowind in oblivion. (With having to find a morroblivion download).

I actually never got far enough for becoming a werewolf in Morrowind, so I missed out on that, and every time I play Morrowind, I get too bored to get very far. Love the game though, of course. It's vampirism is certainly far better than Oblivion's, and a lot more fun to play.
